i have today just killed my third center bearing in 2 years on my yn67 lux . now first question should i be looking for a unballanced tail shaft or some similar problem ? second question is there a bullet proof brand of center bearing on the market?

and i ddont wanna put a single tail shaft in cause i think ill just bend it and it cost less to replace a center bearing than a new taik shaft.

A mate had the same problem with a big suspension lift,he packed the center bearing down 50mm and that fixed the problem.

if there was a bullet proof type center bearing it would kinda defeat the reason for one
but id say its ya lift thats putting strain on it
that and its doing 4wd often enough and it would get dirt and crap on it which drys and acts like sand papper and thus give it a bigger chance to fail

or pull it out and get a one piece driveshaft made. No more centre bearing.

yeah would but am worried that it would get damadged on rocls and that . but if packing the center bearing down dont work its the next step.

The difference of angle for the rear section of the shaft with the centre bearing spaced down as opposed to a single piece unit is stuff all.

If your bearing is flogged now, you buy a new one, space it down, end up in the same place then get a one piece tail shaft.

If you're getting one made, get a heavier than standard wall. I do believe there was a 4runner that was about the right length for a hilux as a one piece.

does your rear shaft have a double cardon on it??? If it does, check it for wear,

cool thanks sierrajam. i will investigate that i was thinkong 60 series tail shaft but no sure bout drive flanges on the diff an the tcase .

nill dbl carden. i think driving style may have a bit to do wothit aswell. im a bit of a right boot driver.

Have you been replacing them with genuine toyota stealership ones?
I am told that the gen ones are FAR better than the aftermarket ones.

i have the same problem they only need a little tap on a rock and they go down hill from there very fast ic done 4 in the last 12 mounths only reason i keep repalcing them is i have a collection off second hand center bearings

I have a single peice on mine and only buffed it on a few places at binnes rd and that was doing dumb shit like 3rd low on the floor at 90 degree step ups with digging the ruts deeper to no avail. see pete he may be able to help out.
plenty of parts on the bench
