Body Fillers/Puttys...
Hey all...
What i have is rust in the top corners of of my front window. Not right on the window frame, but up in the top corners of the body, kinda where the "A" piller joints to the roof. (can post a photo if need be)
Basically, i have grinded the rust out, and needed a product to fill it up. Have tried normal body filler, and also more recently have used the putty with the steel webbing. Both times it has still managed to crack and let water back in...
Short of taking it some place to get it welded up, is there a product anyone has used with sucess... At the moment i have just used silastic, ruff as guts but...
Cheers!

well stuff iv used is metal filler its a bog but has stainless steel in the mix
which make it quiet strong,
i used it in a toyota camry where i grinded the corners back and found it went through the first outer layer of roof but not the second , i also found the roof was brazed together once i got the fish oil in there which helps stop rust in its track, just the little bit ya cant get to, and within a day ya can bog over it,
just remember to take ya time

Agreed - especially in this location where there will always be some degree of flex.
Depending on the size of the hole, you may have some success with one of the Sikaflex products - they are paintable and flexible, I've had (enamel) paint over sikaflex where the trailer wheel arches are sealed (up to 3/4" wide ) for the last 2 years - and no sign of cracks etc yet in the paintwork.

If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...
next best thing to try would be to stuff abit of chicken wire behind the hole to give it abit for rigity and then give that a good chunk of that steel bog shit
then let it dry and set rock hard then go over that with the normal bog and maybe do it in stages letting layers dry befor going on
or you adding to much hardner and its setting off to fast and cracking

does you car have a factory sunroof? most cars i have seen that rust in this spot before others have got factorys sunroofs and the gutters for them are clogged .
if this is the case good chance its helping it to crack etc
depending on size of hole fibre glass may work or the fibre reinforced bog, even metal filler
but best is always to plate it up, bog on roofs never works to well as they shrink and contract as the day heats n cools. and they flex while you drive (alot more than other panels)
