this time tomorrow night i will be the pround owner of a new turbo on the 80!!

getting it done at turbo glide wollongong tomorrow and pick it up tomorrow arvo :twisted: :twisted:

can't wait to aim it at some of those hills on the F6 and hold 110kmh all the way to the top for the first time in years!!! :D :D

well all i can say is.... FAAARRRKKK, i should have fitted the turbo sooner!!! its unreal!! and the bling factor is sky high with the turbo whistle!!! my recomendations to anyone with a diesel motor is go buy a turbo before any other mods!!!

i was wondering ive driven a fw cars with turbos and they all get the wine happening. but mine doesnt. im only running 4psi of boost when i turn this up will it start to whine. or do you guys reckon theres something wrong with mine.

4psi, Im suprised that would do anything, I didnt notice any power difference on mine with the std 8psi!

I read somewhere once the "whine" has to do with the turbo being balanced correctly. The better balanced it is, the less whine.

inlet and exhaust plumbing will have a lot to do with how much whine you hear - get rid of your muffler(s) and you'll hear some nice whistle.

I have also heard that whistle is related to bearing wear and/or out of balance, and believe there may be some truth in that.

well i bought the turbo second hand but it was only suppose to have 80k's on it cause the idiot rode of his car. but when i checked it, it spun ok and there was no play in the bearings and looked bran new. i have single muffler and my intake pipe in to the inlet manifold has a 90 degree cut and shut bend. ive been going top get a new mandral one made but havent had the chance maybe nows the time.

ruggers first thing I would do is wind you boost up to somewhere in the 8 - 10 psi range, then you'll be getting your money's worth :)

free up the exhaust and you'll hear it whistle a bit, even if it's in top condition.

im not fussed about the wistle if was i would put a bov on it. just for the woosh factor. just wasnt sure if it was normal not to whistle. i will turn the boost up but im waiting for my intake pipe and get the injector pump timed to suit

a BOV is pointless on a diesel. not to mention it probably wouldn't even work.

only my car it will work as my car has a throtle body on it. so when i back to change gears i over boost then loose boost and have to wait to build up pressure which isnt long she make pressure at just over 1000 rpm and full boost at 2500-3000 rpm

ruggers which engine is this? most diesels that have a throttle also have a sizeable throttle bypass and boost spiking on gearchanges is minimal.

turbo diesels should hit peak boost before around 2000rpm. even my revvy little 2.4 4 cylinder (4800rpm redline from memory) makes peak boost by around 2200rpm, peak torque is around 2400. if you're waiting to almost 3000 for peak boost it would appear that the turbo isn't matched real well to the engine.

I'm not sure about the specifics of the Diesel turbo vs a petrol one but thought you may be interested in this stuff from Turbosmart if you are talking about playing with Boost pressure etc...

I got the duel stage boost controller so that we can run one on max pressure, and then a more "safe" pressure for when the car is running on fuel of "questionable" quality - or when just cruising around town.
