Joining pipe

How do you cut out the end of a pipe so it fits snuggly half way around top and bottom of another peice of pipe

So they are at 90 degrees to each other and one joins to the middle of the other; best way i can describe it

either get yourself a tube notcher from Hare and Forbes for $130 plus $8 for a holesaw from tradetools or sit there with a grinder notching it out until you get it right..

how much tube notching will you be doing

also what are you building? is it structurally important? what steel are you using? a tube notcher is a good investment if building cages. or just use a drop saw to make two angled cuts. after a while you can get pretty good at figuring out what to cut.

but if you're building say fences or furniture with thinnish pipe, it's pretty time consuming to notch every joint. if joint strength isn't critical, just flatten the end of the pipe with a hammer.

at work we use a cold saw. if have one or a hot saw that can do angles.
ive found its easyest to set the saw at 45degrees cut the pipe so it looks like a spike. like this ^ on the end. the all you have to do is dress it with the grinder till fit neat.

Thats exactly what i meant; where he uses the drop saw.

Just looking at what it would cost me to make my own tube bar; thats about all i want to do.
