Help!!! what do i need for a 4" lift

Post by full-boost »

hey guys, i was wondering what i would need for a 4" lift.. i have an 89 GQ turbo diesel with 2" lift and 2" body blocks. im getting brand new shocks and springs which are for a 4" lift in a GU
ive been told that due to the weight difference between the GQ and the GU, i will probably have closer to 5" of lift. these are the things that i think i will have to change;
shocks,
coils,
brake lines,
castor plates.

im assuming that i will also have to do;
panhard rods

is there any thing else? im worried about things that ive heard along the grape vine like;
drive shafts might not be long enough, and could come apart,
steering shaft might not be long enough and could come apart,

does anyone have any experience with this? any pointers or things i may have missed?

thanks guys!

you may need ro remove the 'bump' in your gearbox crossmember thats right below your front shaft, otherwise it'll hit on full flex

steering shaft is no concern - only when you've done a body lift - and it's been done already

other than that, you've pretty much listed everything needed.

You'll probably have to remove your swaybars (if not done so already) or get longer links made up to suit

short or long wheel base? if its a shorty you may need to lower the gearbox cross member or fit a double cardin to the driveshaft.
i put drop boxes in mine instead of castor plates and im very happy with it. adjustable panhards are advisable too

You can get away with castor bushes if you dont fancy caster plates. I run 2 degree bushes and a 4" lift and its all within specs.

Adjustable panhards recommended, even if you dont mind the whole diff being pulled over to one side it will soon flog out the bushes on the standard ones.

You may also have to extend ur bump stops but depends on shock length when compressed.
