patrol cv joints can they be rebuilt

Post by duncan »

just replaced my passenger side cv joint and axle because it was very stiff to move and some time locked up even with new grease can they be pulled apart and new balls fitted like the toyota ones you would think there is some way as they had to be put togther in the first place but the gregories manual says they are unrebuildable any help would be great

I dont know how but there must be a way, because when they heat treat them they pull them apart to treat different parts different ways. ie, cage, star and bell

if you pop the axle off the cv you can then rotate the cage enough to remove the ball bearings. not that this would be worth while as it is usually the bell that wears or stretches that causes the problem in the first place.!
