hey guys i'm a toyota man so i never thought i'd post in here, but i'm considering buying a gq coilcab with 220 000 k's on it it's a tb42 carbie.
what problems should i look for and how much power can the rear diff and axels take, as i was thinking of putting a ford 5.4l v8 into it?

why would you want to use a 5.4 boss engine their massive and arent that flash anyway having owned one in an xr8 ute LS1s will flog them as for the drive line question just compere the ford diff and gearbox to the nissan units and i think this will answer any questions here

thast the problem i'm having at the moment.
as for the ls1 i don't like them they are lighter and smaller but thast where it ends the ford has more torque and more power and with the rite gearing would be a wepon plus knowone has done it yet that i know off

no one has done it cause the engine is massive. u cant even get pipes on a ford without dropping the motor down.
the ls1 is small, light and makes heaps of grunt, also been done before so there is knowledge on how to do it.
the ls1's when i worked on them in commodores used to get a set of pipes, exahaust with standard cats still and a tune and they did 230kw's at the treads.
more than enough grunt.

true that alj. only benefit of putting a v8 in a troll is if you want to mod it further over and above the usual install, and ofcourse the noise, but then again the sound of a huge turbo howling along is nice too

is it much more trouble putting a turbo on a carbie 4.2 how would u go about it and has it bin done ? and how much boost can u run throo them cos i want some real horsepower?

or just look at the work and money Heath put into his comp truck, 4.2 dsl turbo, heaps of custom stuff, now going for a v8.alj wrote:Spend the money on a turbo for the 4.2L, you wont regret it! And you'll come out with a bit of cash to boot. Where's the loss???

Straight Gas turbo. Is asbout as easy as it gets. No computers to wire up. no carbys to worry about.
There is also a blowthru turbo set up. That is used on cars with carbys. wether or not it works with tb42's I dont know.
