The Japs put 4wd under anything they can :)

It's most probably like the Subaru L-Series 4wd's, in which the front wheels drive the car normally, and the tailshaft engages into the gearbox when 4wd is selected. This eliminates a transfer case as such.

I am intrigued by the 'extra low first gear' though...

It's almost along the lines of the Japanese Kei cars... small cars like the Mira, with engines less then a litre that are turboed, 4wd... you name it, they have done it :D Crazy asians... lol

That'd give the old ride-on mower a run for it's money.
