STOCKTON NAV PRACTICE EXERCISE
how does
Sunday 29th October look to you all??? One day only this time!
It's before Rudi's Cliffhanger Navrun for those that want a last minute practice and the local N/trials too. So your trucks should be prep'd and damage free!
Also not so hot as mid Nov....we have much awaited U2 concert then anyway and busy calendar.
We're looking at camping in the dunes Sat nite and doing a little nite exercise "on foot" also.....so people can come up late Sat arvo and join us camping, like they did in the Wattagans, which was neat.
The day course will be v. different to the Watagans, as you won't have trails to follow. You'll be given gps points to plot and work out your own route....course. We'll be taking your overall trip reading too.
Looking forward to it.......and seeing you all again with newbies too.
Cheers,
Celia & Eugene
PS. I'll be posting a flyer/info in the next couple days.....just wanted to sound you all out before I confirmed date.

Hey Bret,
That's exo.....we haven't posted the details yet cos we have to check which servo sells the beach permits first.
The schedule is basically as follows:-
Sat we're going up to set the course for Sunday Oct 29th.
Sunday morning we'll give everyone a list of GPS points to copy from a notice board.
You will then enter them and plot your own course.
Trip meter readings will be used to see who does the course in the shortest distance.
But again there will be no time limit.
It 's a practice, so everyone will be able to take as long as they wish.
Again one course in the morning and one after lunch.
As there is a $5 Stockton beach permit fee needed, we will not be asking for a donation to our Drive4Life Charity.
Thanks to Bret, the beach permit can be bought at the Metro Servo at lavis lane, you get to it by taking the first right after the hexam bridge and following your nose.
Everyone will be welcome to come up and join us on Sat arvo and camp over night as well. Channel 16 again.
With Rudi's 4wd Monthly Cliffhanger Navrun the following weekend, it'll be perfect for that last minute practice exercise & to have fun.
Look forward to welcoming everyone again.
Cheers,
Celia & Eugene

Update after a recce there yest:
Stockton Beach permits are $10 for the day OR $15 for 6 months from the Metro Servo.
Petrol, Diesel & Gas as well.
We found a neat campsite for Sat nite and also noted important co-ordinates which will enable everyone to find us easily. These will be posted in a day or two.
It would be good to know how many are coming along, so can you let us know please.
Do remember to bring your togs and a fishing rod (your fishing licence needed).
Stockton was great yest and I reckon everyone will have a good time.
See ya,
Celia & Eugene

Just a reminder that it's still happening on the 29th.....and would be good to get pm or idea of any others thinking of showing?
It's purely a practice remember....there'll be no tracks to follow so you cannot get lost and will be pacifically aimed at the fun aspect.
Remember also if everyone gets use to using their gps's then who knows what will follow on? maybe Rudi's Navruns and the OBC.
Wish we'd had such an opportunity before jumping head first into comps knowing almost nothing! practice does help, I can tell you.
Cheers,
C & E

slightly OT...
cebarry, were you guys in the lifted (and everything else), white shorty patrol at the metro servo today at Stockton?
I recall seeing "Eugene" amongst the 1 or 2 stickers and decals.
It was my first time at Stockton today, man it's easy to lose your bearings there. Try a navrun WITHOUT gps, that'll sort 'em out.

Hey fishi.....Yip that was us.... apart from experiencing a little electrical fire on leaving the twin servo's and thinking we wouldn't even make it....we did and managed to place the co-ordinate markers.
Totally agree that Stockton is something else ...you cannot always make out the terrain can ya......and with the wind blowing as it did on Sat, made trying to see/make it out, even harder. We had a surprize ourselves, droping down off a small dune....had no idea it wasn't there and dug in the nose.....not funny, tho we laugh about it now.
Good to hear u had a fun time 1st time out....and maybe next time you'll join in or at least come and say g'day.
Everyone was still talking to us afterwards which is a good sign and they all seemed to have gained experience and more confidence in using their gps's.....which is great.
Surely this will get enough interest happening which will encourage Rudi to bring a nav run to nsw/sydney???
To Paul & Quinny who came along today and are competeing at the 4wd Monthly Cliffhanger Navrun next weekend........ GOOD LUCK guys!
To the rest, we really enjoyed having you along. ......Brian & Barb, Brett & Paul, Don & Dave, Tony & Elmer, Nick & Leanne.
Also catching up with the TLCC along the way too.
Cheers,
Celia & Eugene

Hi Celia,
Thanks for a great day today, we definately needed more practice with the GPS thats for sure! I though we had it sorted after the last time, but how wrong was I, but after today I think we'll be okay......i hope!
Anyway thankyou so much for giving your own time to organise this, you and Eugene are amazing and very generous with your time.
To anyone who couldn't make it and hasn't tried anything like this before it is heaps of fun and it always challenges you no matter how much technology you have, as celia and Eugene witnessed as we tried to figure out where the hell we were going! But please if you are hanging back thinking of having a go, rock up to the next one and you will be surprised how much you enjoy it, how much you learn and meet some very people, and they will help you sort your technology out, they helped us heaps today!
Thanks again Celia and Eugene!
