(RUF)what is it and vibration

I have noticed people talking about (RUF) please fill me in on what this is.
Plus i have 92 sierra 1.3 s4 rockhopper gears standard shocks and springs and im getting a bad vibration in 2nd at about 20kms hr and slightly in 3rd can anyone give me some ideas of what tihs could be.

RUF = Rears Up Front (as in springs).

Not sure on the vibration could be a few different things, as minor as an unbalanced wheel or as major as uni's, transfer mounts or gearing, etc etc.

Do a search for RUF as there is a couple ways to do it and also different views on it.

Need more info on the vibration. Like under power, on the brakes, where it feels to be coming from, front\rear, load on the car etc. Is it coming through the wheel or the chassis etc.

Check the basics like make sure everything is tight, there are no bushes that are screwed, play in steering, wheel balance. Both in the front and rear.

Thanks for your replies the vibration is coming from the drive line under load eg when you take off from a standing start. it is very anoying i was told it could be axle wrap i forgot to mention that the car is sprung over ive check the transfer mounts and one was twisted so i straigtened it a strenghened it with plates but its still there. There was a post on the site about aligning the dots up on the tail shafts i cant find the dots where are they. i havent tried it in 4wd yet i have only just got the car and havent got around to it i will do it tomorrow and see. ive had the front wheels balanced. i reversed the diffs back to standard so it wasnt sprung over and it didnt do it, it drove like a dream (had to do it to rego the car).

The uni yokes on your driveshaft whould be aligned. That way they counter the slight acceleration and deceleration inherent in the universal joint design. Also check for play and tight spots in your unis too. Your clutch isnt shuddering?? Spring wrap can make a bit of a shuddering feel to take off too. When your SPOA was done, were the diff pinion angles tileted up to help with drive shaft aligment??

Not sure about the clutch have to check that out havent taken much notice there but i will. the diff angles were tilted up. might get two new unies for the rear as the front tail shalf is brand new and longer so i didnt have to put spacers in. Now you have said that sring wrap can make a shuddering feel im not sure it you would call it shuddering or a vibration is spring wrap only on take off or when you torque range comes in, the vibration or shuddering is coming in 2nd at 2200rpm and 3rd when your revs come down around 2200rpm. just went for a quick drive does it slightly in 4h but not 4l when in 4h / 2h there is alot of vibration in the transfer lever and the whole dash vibrates its differently only in 2nd and 3rd but not in 4th or 5th, because it dosent do it in 1st when i hold it at 2200rpm or close to it

Deffinatley in the driveline then (t-case lever going nuts). Remove your rear shaft and go through each uni's full range of movement, probably a stuffed uni then. Check for any excess play in your slip joint too, and grease this up while the shaft is apart. Did you check you driveshaft phasing ??

Yes t case lever is going nuts. i replaced both uni's with brand newys and greased them all its still doing it got me stuffed. what do you mean by phasing?????

Both uni joints are aligned with each other. As a uni joint rotates with any mis-alignment in it, it goes through a accelteration and a de-celeration phase per each full rotation. Having both uni-joints in phase counters this. If check that each uni is aligned with each other, if not split chaft at slip joing and rotate parts till they aligh. When you repaired the t-case lever, did you modify its alighment. Also check the jackshaft uni's.

yeah got ya now yes they are aligned. i repaired the t case brackets is this what you mean i hope i got it back to where its meant to be it must be because as i said it doesnt vibrate when the car is low. is the jackshalf the one from gear box to t - case. could it be wheel bearings

Correct, driveshaft fron gearbox to t-case is called jack shaft. Check the uni's in it, might be an issue.

Peolpe have spoke about aligning the shalfs up by the dots on the end of the slip yoke male and the female end ive found the dot on the male end but not the female can you tell where it should be or take a photo of one so i can see where it is, because apparently i have phased them up wrong.

make sure you check the uni,s in the "jack" shaft as well !!!
(between the gearbox & transfer !!)

Havent got around to doing the jack shaft yet but i will this weekend and ill let you know how i go
