S1 Disco Tdi Fuel Sedimenter

Post by SteveC »

I have been told to drain and clean out the sedimenter before changing the fuel filter

Need help as I cannot unscrew the drain tap or remove the lower section of the unit to clean.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks
Steve

just undo the 7/16" spanner sized bolt on the top of the sedimenter, the bowl assembly will drop down. DO NOT undo the drain tap, it WILL break off.

What I do with the broken and leaking ones, (usually customers who are too inquisitive, "What happens if I just undo this a little...?)I drill and tap a new thread and fit a new bolt and O ring, as the fitting is countersunk for a seal anyway. The thread is a whitworth I think, and easier to convert to a common bolt size and thread.

or buy a new one from Karcraft at silverwater, i think it was 70 somthing bucks. When i took mine off the county, it was the origional one, as was the airfilter.

What's wrong with just drilling out the broken plug and filliing the hole with epoxy? It is better to remove the whole bowl each time and properly clean it anyway.

You can also put another CAV filter on the same fitting if you change the inlet and outlet hoses around. You need to protect the glass bottom though.
