How do you remove an ARB rear bar/step?

Post by Animal Mother »

Been trying to take the rear ARB bar off my Rangie and just can't figure out how to.
There are 2 fixing points, chassis rails and rear x-member. I know I have to unbolt these to get it off but the bolts in the rear x-member don't have captive nuts and I can't get to the nuts to grip them. If I could get the aluminium plate off then I think I could get to them, but I cant get it off because it has nuts and dome top bolts (i.e no grippig them) holding it on.
Does anyone have any ideas?

First step is to remove the aluminium plate. The hardest part of the job is removing the aluminium plate. The nuts from memory are a 17mm. If the dome head bolt spins when turning, try holding it with a pair of vice grips. it worked for me last time I removed one.
Once you have done that, undo the 4 bolts through the rear cross member and finally the chassis rails. In that order the bar wont drop on you as your working under it

Its free to a good home.
On three conditions:
1. You don't mind it being damaged (i.e. you are good with a welding torch and at bending steel)
2.I keep the bolts for my new one.
3.You pick it up yourself.
PM me your email address if you are interested and I'll describe the damage/send some pics.
