Outta my depth... wiring woes

Post by Abaris »

I've have put a G13bb engine into a '91 sierra. I am up to wiring in the new loom and computer. I have managed to power up the old wiring loom (ie. I have lights, blinkers, etc) but have not yet sucessfully managed to fire up the starter motor, new wiring loom or computer. As far as I can tell all of the sensors are connected, with all of the plugs accounted for.

I know its a very difficult question to answer without looking at the car, but... does anyone have any advice on how to make it all go?

OR

Does anyone know of a good auto electrician in the Newcastle area?

help,

Can recomend a few good Auto sparky's, but be warned it will cost you to take a half completed project in, as they have to check everything you have done, then complete the job. If they dont check and correct your work, they leave themselves open to complaints. PM me if you want some info.

did you touch anything or remove anything from your standard loom? if not then you should be able to use your old starter motor wires.

i will have to see if i can send you that manual again, my outlook isnt working properly.

when i stripped mine i had to only hook up 5 wires to make it run properly.

as stated (unless its a auto loom) you can use your original starter circut from the sierra.

have you stripped the loom or did you just splice the whole loom into the sierra loom?

The loom has two positions where it goes into the firewall (one on the drivers side and one on the passengers side [ECM] ). Both sides have two large extra plugs - one blue and one white - which look identical. I think these, plugs on the ECM side, are for an Auto Transmission control module (therefore an auto loom???).

The old loom is all in place, the lights are all working. The starter motor is all in place and (all-but) wired up, my goal is to make the started motor fire up, just to check that it works properly, before I plug in the ECM. I thought I had it, but when I turned the key... nothing... SHIT!.

What were the 5 wires you had to hook up?
