disco series 1 diff same as a s2.

disco series 1 diff same as a s2.
FYI.
Just found out somthing interesting. A s1 disco center will go straight into a series 2 and vice versa. The difference between the 2 are only very minor, one is a slight change in the thickness of the flange where it bolts on the housing, and the pinion flange is held on with a bolt instead of a nyloc nut.

How? The Disco2 axles don't change over with the Disco1 axles. The Disco2 are semi floaters.Reddo wrote:Could be wrong, but is not the spline count different on S2 ie, 10 spline on S1 versus 24 on S2?
We swapped S2 axles (24 spline) into our S1 and changed the diff centre to 24 also (JacMac locker).
Ah,ok. I assume you mean the Disco1 post 94 axles which were the 24 spline ones.
Cheers

you are probably right here, I'm going on the advice from the wreckers who told me they were from a D2. What's the actual difference then?

Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
I'm pretty sure the RD57 doesn't fit the Disco2's, and that is the one for the 4.6 V8 P38 diff and Defender Rover type rears. This is all despite what the ARB catalogue says.Utemad wrote:The RD56 air locker fits both S1 and S2 24 spline Discos. The RD57 is used on the rear of S2 Discos after a certain date.
Going by memory at least.
So that must mean they are pretty darn similar.
