Highmount reco cost

Had a search around cant find much thats not very old

what cost is it to get someone to do a basic reco and light mods, oil tap freespool circlip or whatever it is.

Mal Leslie is a name ive herd around what does he charge for a basic reco and freshen up on an older winch.

Mal recoed mine, all the usual stuff, i kept my drum original length but reduced diameter for more rope.

From memory it was about $1,200.00 all up.

From memory Mal charge around $550 - $600 for the basic stuff. Strip down and clean / check, oil plug, breathers, bracing the drum, roller bearing etc. It costs more if things need replacing (clutch, motor etc) or the drum gets alterred.

Mate Mal Leslie has a great name no doubt about it, however theres no reason why you can't do a lot of this yourself with some very basic mechanical skills and the parts available from any Warn stockist. I ordered the brake rebuild kit and the lower housing rebuild kit from Mannell Motors here in Sydney, I can't remember the $$ for the kits unfortunately, but it has everything you need to reco the winch. Other mods such as the brake shaft mod (I can organise a kit for this for you if you're interested) can be basically mail ordered and installed by yourself also. It is the things like tapping an oil plug and rear cross baracing that need some expertise, but there are lots of other choices besides the above mentioned name to do these so shop around and save some $$, if you want to know who to speak to drop me a PM.

Another option in Melbourne is Matt at Total Traction Drivelines in Moorabbin 9555 1501. He has just done a very nice job on my highmount.

I have actually had a very close look at cj's winch and the work done by Matt at Total Traction was immaculate to say the least, I was very impressed.

There is also Darren aka Hales231271 (off Outers so drop him a PM) who also does really excellent work and does many winches for the comp trucks running around in Vic.

Like I said shop around and have a chat to a few people, but the above mentioned people do excellent work.
