URGENT: 80 Series no oil pressure 1HDT
Hi guys, how are we today? I have a 80 series 1HDT that was just recently rebuilt by myself and mechanic relative.
motor went back in yesterday and the oil was not picking up. have checked oil pump releae valve, and oil pickup and didnt help. after this we have removed the front covers and re-primed the oil pump with grease, primed the filter and countless times re-primed the oil pump with oil thorugh side bung.
oil pickup has been re-sealed and still no pressure!
can anyone please help? i am with the car for the next few hours and then i am heading home for the 400k trip, if anyone can help please reply or msg me on 0421697148
im desperate for ideas or it means pulling the whole motor down again to investigate
cheers
John

Any luck finding your issue John?
Priming the pump with grease? I haven’t heard of that before – the manual says 10cc of engine oil, that’s the only thing that seems out of the ordinary – however it should pump that sludge mix through ok. The only other issue could be an oil pick up blockage? Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

hey guys, no luck on oil pressure, as for some of the questions:
yes we primed the oil pump with grease, its a good trick that i now know about, helps the pump get a suction and sucks oil straight away - so not my problem :(
the car also has a manual guage and no oil is getting as far as the guage, it reaches about half way before losing all pressure
ive now travelled home away from the car, we are going to go back up in a few weekends time with some more ideas after we talk to a few people about it. might try replacing the oil pump (we have checked this over and over and it is all fine though) and most likely replace oil pickup (it was kicking around the shed for 3 months so could have been cracked causing to suck in air
ill let you all know how i go though, thanks for your help anyway guys!

yes this was done, we thought it may have been a dodgy seal so pulled the pickup off and resealed it and still no go
a new set of pump gears are $150 from toyota, maybe they have lost resistance and we are going to put a new set of gears, new pickup (it was sitting in the shedfor a few months, could have got cracked) and finally try and check the channel running from pickup > pump with some compressed air

nope we pulled it out and cleaned it and made sure it wasnt getting stuck ya can take the bolt out and crank the motor over and the oil reliese vaulve doesnt shoot out or we can take the oil psi sender unit off the block and no oil comes out there either so there is either a blockage or oil pump is shagged i reckon

Mate, ive heard of people getting crud and stuff caught in the oil galleries when they have had the block apart.
Busily cleaning off all the crap here and there, and inadvertantly blocked up a hole.
It could be even as simple as a wasp building a nest in an exposed gallery to ruin your day.
They seem to love aircraft vents and other odd places for some reason.
Anyway, I digress.
Can you back flush from the oil press switch with air when the pickup is off, and filter is off??
Just my 0.02c worth mate, hope you work it out.
Let us know how you go.
I have come across blocked oil galleries from moly grease that caused a bank of cylds to be oil starved at the rocker gear, they coated the new cam in moly, oil washes it off, it gets stuck in gallery, no oil to rockers, motor not happy. Got a push bike spoke and cleaned out the vertical risers, then blew back with air, oil all workie now where its meant to go.
hope you get to the bottom of your problem soon mate.

thanks for all the reply's guys
im am buying some new oil pump gears and new oil pickup just to be safe, might aswell replace them when we have to pullthe motor that far down again
we are going to try adn put some high pressure air through all oil channels and make sure its flowing nicely, oil pickup isnt blocked but it may have got cracked and sucking air so instead of getting it fixed i will just buy another one
