body lift
your in a good mood tonight bogged, so i guess ill be the stick in the mud! mara have you looked at the down sides to a body lift? i dunno about you but ive got enuf creaks and rattles. why not more suspension or cuting guards? IMO body lifts are a cheap and nasty cop out
dont tell the missus
Re: body lift
I'd say the opposite.embryo wrote:IMO body lifts are a cheap and nasty cop out
People who have spent $1000 on suspension already, dont want to do it again to go up more.
Body lifts are used by 90% of 'serious (comp etc)' people, so arent really a copout..
I'd say cutting guards is the cheap and nasty hack from hell. I also say those coil spacers are a hack from hell to gain 10mm...
If you do a body lift correctly, and IMWO, if the mount rubbers are stuffed replace them, you shouldnt get any creaks or groans. as long as you dont go a stupid sized body lift, (3in+)..
Most smart people recommend a 4in sus and 2in body as the best option for 35s, others go with hacking their car to bits.

mara
i got the same set up as you, brought a SWB with a 2" OME, put a body lift in, took about 4 hours with a mate. Pretty simple job.
i used nylon blocks, brought it off a guy on ebay, if you do a search for 'gasdrx', im sure he still does them. His from lilydale in melb and i think he does them fro 120 or 150, cant really remember.
Only prob i had is a got tail shaft vibration, got longer trailing arms and some packers for my box put, which got rid of about 90% of the vib. Think it was about $400 with new bushes from my 4WD machanic.
Apart from that its been all good. I am running 35s, they sometimes bite in the bush, but when i realise where its bitting, i bend back or cut the guard a little.

Patrol MQ-GQ 2" body lifts $140 SWB, $160 LWB
age old statement, what the moron on the phone tells you is ok, and what is UNROADWORTHY, are usually 2 different things. Ask them for it in writing on company letter head.Tayls wrote:im in vic,
just cars insurance with a 2" body lift... they said it was no worries.
Then again, what happened to the "new SUPER" aussie wide rules where it was 4inch all up, body + sus + tires?
legal body lift
I went through the same thing when putting my body lift in is it legal? will i be insured? so i spoke to one of the head managers in the enginering department at vic roads and also got it in writing the rule with body lift is you can go as high as you want but when you start modifing things such as steering column seat belt mounts(like on a landy disco) extension of steel brake lines anything safetywise that needs major modification it then becomes un roadworthy and you must have it enginered so in theroy if you could put 10 inch blocks in your patrol with out modifing anything major its legal and roadworthy GQtrol
A small body lift ie less than 2" is a good idea. It will give more room around the motor trans etc and will also make it easier to clean the chassis. It will also allow bigger tyres to be fitted but will keep the centre of gravity lower than if you had the same overall lift but done completely with suspension. Most of the guys I racing have between 1" and 2" body lifts, and between 2" and 4" suspension lifts. I have 2" body and 3" suspension and and also cut the guards.
