My Front passenger disk brake has seized on a couple of times for no real apparent reason. Making it hard and dangerous to drive. I figure its time for an overhaul / rebuild? I have not done this before but do you reckon its worth having a shot at? Is there a kit available to do it? Otherwise i'll just take it in to a brake place, anyone had it done recenty, how many $$ am i looking at? I drive a Sierra, 89 widetrack.

Seizing Brake Caliper

It is only by attempting new things that you learn. Get yourself a manual or if you have amate who can help even better. The braking system on a Zook is pretty simple by comparison to many of the ABS systems of today.
If this is the first time you attempt anything like this it will seem daunting, and a big challenge but the sense of acheivement will be worth it.
Joining a club often gives you access to experts who will volunteer their time to assist or advise you. Worth thinking about.

I bought a caliper rebuild kit ages ago, but i'm sorry I can't remember how much it was. Ring around a few places and you should be able to get an idea of what they're worth.

I encountered this on my 89 WT sierra one side seizing up alot, because of the way the caliper works it alows for mud to get caught up on the sliders for one side of the pad. if you take your wheel of and then the caliper check to see if all the rubber bushes are still intact or not coated up badly with mud and dirt. I was unable to source a rebuild kit and Badly in need of some weekend wheeling went to our local 4WDrive spares and picked up a second hand Caliper of a less Klm model for about 75$ put it in and bled the system.
Also check how far your brake pads are because when they become very low they can just fall out. So might want to look at that and get some new pads whilst our at it.

All is now solved, thanks for everyones help. Top link that Damo was very handy! Sourced 2 kits, one for each side from warringah brakes. $20 a side which contained all the ruber goodies which are involved. Also bought some special grease for the job, so $50 all up which didnt seem to bad. Was also a pretty easy mornings work.

Please post up more details on your guy for the Rebuild kits phone number and name..? I rang around Australia and local and couldnt get anything, even my local brake rebuild centre was pretty slack...
Im keen to buy some rebuild kits as Running Front and Rear Disk brakes on mine would be good to have kits ready to go as back up.
