from my knowledge i rekon the 40 diffs are some of the strongest cruiser ones or the 80 series!!
but if ya want coils get 80 diff with coils already on dem!!!
i would ask...
what sort of comps? are you talking high speed gear?
or werock?
or tufftruck?? you going to run 35s or 53boggers??
those questions would depend on that and budget.
if you have enough just buy petes yellow 40.
if your struggling some DIY at home can go along way!

the sort of comps would be tuff truck, nissan trails etc. plans are to strech wheel base to aprrox. 105"- 108" running 42"-44"s ,chopped into tray back with coilovers. Un fortunatly the budget does not strech as far as petes 40 trying to get out of it for about half that.

lot stronger than any of those nissan/yota diffs. for both front and rear.

what sort of coin im looking at for danna's ?
around 10k or more.
we're talkin about 35 spline axles, ctms, 300m shafts, arb lockers, 5.29 ring and pinon (yukon gears) disc brakes, etc
speak to sean from ABT - he shoudl be able to help you with exact prices with everything you need.
lMost US buggies run up to 200 kgs of lead shot in each tyre and still bounce around where nissan and yota axles woud have broken long ago.
TOM
custom bar work, 4x4 parts, trailers, anything out of steel/alloy :D
maybe you would be better off starting with a FJ45 ute and chopping it down?? may help you with rego and stuff too cos its still a ute?? and any police who are bored too??
if you have the coin go Mogs or dana60s. but if you can afford 10K for diffs alone maybe you should start with a more upmarket truck?
once you have bulletproof diffs where does the next weak link go to though??

id be looking for portals if i was gonna spend $10k on a pair of diffs.
I would go 60series diffs they is everywhere and you can upgrade them easily.
the rear is strong i had one spit a 8mm CIG locker out and she did'nt even get scratched I when for 12mm and shitloads of weld this time.
There weak point is the CVs but you can fix that
If you dont have panel damage you ain't trying hard enough

Ditto, you could pick up a pair of mogs for around 5-6 grand, if your willing to spend that kind of cash on diffs you be crazy buying something without portals.
unfortunatly i spent the money else where, and am using 40 series diffs. have entered tuff truck 07 so we'll see how they hold up.
at nissin trials on the weekend 2 40series broke their pinions, 1 40series diff the other had a 60 series diff, which is basicly the same thing.
breaking pinion is to do with axle tramp isnt it? diff rotates and pinion binds up.
Depends, if you dont contain the axle wrap it can cause the pinion shaft to break as the uni binds. But its also possible to just smash the pinion shaft, or strip the pinion and crownwheel teeth.
Layto....

yeh but you dont hear of 60 series smashing pinions or crownwheels very often. They will blow cv's or shear axle studs before this would happen.
