ballpark prices for himount winch mods

Post by ausyota »

Getting a Himount in a few weeks and wondering what sort of ballpark prices modding it will cost.

welding tabs and bracing & circlip brake removal $
smaller diam drum and maybe wider drum $
breathers & fill and drain plugs $
6hp motor $

Anything else I have forgotten?

Also does anyone know if there is a shop in Perth that knows what they are doing for this stuff or should I just send it over east to Mal?

Cheers
Paul.

6hp motor will set you back upwards of $500 min for a Warn 6hp.

To Drill and tap your brake shaft to fit a spacer and bolt instead of the circlip allow up to $120 roughly, but any engineering joint can do this for you if you can explain what you want and the going rate with them is $80 an hour. You can also buy a kit to do this, we are able to source these. If you're interested let me know via PM.

Back bracing is a little more tricky than you might think as you need to get the winch in a jig to ensure it's all square otherwise theres no point doing it. You could probably go to an engineering joint with that as well, but you would need to be a bit particular with them about what you need done and how. But I would say better off going to a 4wd mob who does this in WA a bit as it needs to done properly.

You should also drill a hole through your freespool level and put a pin through it as they have a tendency under shock loading to pop out.

Rather than breathers I would be runnning low pressure air through the motor if I were you ;)

Anyway hope that helps get you rolling if you need any more help feel free to PM us, we're away at Cliffhanger for the next 5 days tho.
