Unless you're looking at doing a rear disc conversion, and I'm not sure anybody's done it, I've always found the rears to be just about as good as they get for drum brakes.

Are you having a specific problem with them?

You'd be better off replacing the fronts with something larger IMHO unless you've got a specific issue with the drums like AJ said?

They are quite poorly sealed agaist mud/dust etc. This causes the shoes to glaze up and not work very well. Clean out the brakes, scuff up the shoes ( coarse sand paper ), apply the handbrake a few times to get the pads adjusted and see how they work.

No guarantees - but mine were useless after any off road fun.

Thanks, will try that on the rears. Just noticed the other day they weren't holding very well while rolling down a hill backwards. What kind of upgrades can be done to front. Sorry if this listed in the faq's. I am new to 4 wheeling and daihatsu, but I love my Rocky.

I could not adjust mine with the handbrake after installing new shoes in the rear so had to do it by hand....Now it stops on a dime (should have changed the rear ones months ago)

Fix your brakes adn adj your handbrake then try it, you will find that if correctly opperating and adjusted you wont have much trouble unless you fill them with mud etc.
