hi i Just brought a 1990 model troopy and was wondering if u fellas had any segestions on what lift and wheels will fit and look good

2-4" lift, 33"x12.5" tyres.
tyre choices are up to you i would suggest either coopers stt, bf muddies or goodyear mtr's. many spring companys out there, old man emu i have found to be good. extended shackles are also a cheap way to get lift, either superiour or snake can supply 2" extended. if you use shackles you will also need 3deg wedges for the front to correct camber. would not recommend any bigger than 35" tyres and 4" lift, troopys are top heavy and roll easy.

My suggestions and experiences mate

I have extend shackles - about 300 bucks max. I didn't need to get wedges but the castor adjustment is at it's limit.

If you want to make the best use of your new shackles then longer main and wrap leaves are the way to go. this means that while you get them made you can have the appropriate lift added as well. I suggest 2 - 3 inch max as mine has 2 inch with 1 inch from shackles and its downright scary to drive on a side hill. Unless you get a set of custom wider offset rims and tyres for play use only.

I have been quoted about a grand to get my existing spring packs modified with longer main and wraps all round from carrols springs at Wacol Brisbane. These are the guys that make efs springs. The price is me supplying the springs and fitting them myself, so about 300 more if you give them the truck and make them fit it. which is better because if they have the truck then they can set the springs better.

I also have and suggest U bolt flips to stop you from pretzeling ubolts and to get about an extra inch under your diff housings.

I comfortably run 35 inch Baja's on the 3 inch of lift, and standard offset rims with no scrubbing. all i had to do was fit longer shocks, and slightly extend my front bumpstops.

there are a few little other things that you can do that will help if you get the time and dosh. these are on my list

move front diff 30mm forward - remember to include a driveshaft spacer, 4 inch springs with 1 inch body lift, 36's or 37's, wider rims, taller shock towers front.

The only reason i can plan to do all of this though is because i am chopping the roof. :twisted: I wouldnt advise it for a standard body.

As long as you don't think your troopy will ever be a hardcore comp truck, you will still have loads of fun in pretty hard stuff. The good thing is that the longer wheel base is longitudinally way more stable. I have gotten biiiiig wheel air on uphill and down hills but it never feels like endo-ing.

hey milo have you started your roof chop yet. are you going to have a open rear cab or close it in and have like a well back ute sort of thing.

i am currently in china for a few months and wont be back till next year, and i just bought a house, so the chop will probably be a slow job starting around feb or march.

At the moment i plan on doing an open back to the cab to retain the second row of seats, a ROPS for seat belts mounts on the rear, fastback tonneau cover that comes down from the rops at an angle to the rear. The sloping part above the drivers head will have a rectangular cut out recess for over head lighting so it doesnt protrude too far above the roof.

looking forward to it, i was going to have someone do the work for me over a matter of weeks,but now due to funds going to the house i will probably strip the car down and do it over a few months in the shed.
