BLOWN CV????
was playin silly buggers in my 80 the other till all of a sudden it went bang!!!. not to sure what i've done but whether i'm in high or low range the forward propellor shaft spins freely and the rear sounds like its jumping on a gear making an awful sound, needless to say there is no drive, but this is what has me baffled-shouldn't it still drive the rears even if i've blown a cv up front???
80 series, 3" lift, 35" Wranglers, Exhaust, Sliders, Custom Dents.
Bugger!
Sounds like you have done what most do and ripped the teeth off the front diff. All drive then goes through the front as it drives nothing...teeeth grind but no go....to prove this, lock the transfer diff and iff you can then drive forward with grating sounds, it is the front diff....then the next thing to do is drop its oil and see what comes out...if no teeth, it may be a drive spline or c/v, c/v will give you difficulty turning and maybe the dust cap is missing on that side, because the end of the c/v has flown bush....
