New nissan navara turbo diesel specs?/ gq solid axle swap
New nissan navara turbo diesel specs?/ gq solid axle swap
ok looking at selling the 80 series landcruiser sahara and getting one of the new nissan navara turbo diesel duelcabs.
does anyone know any specs on these as in diff ratios, box ratios,or what sort of box do they run and is it common with any of the gq boxes 2.8/ 3/ 4.2L ? or the wms of the diffs.
basically im going to solid axle it using gq wagon front and rear diffs and hopefully a gq t-case.. will just make a adaptor if i have to..
any info is great as it is very hard to find on these..
thanks mark.

i think the navara rear diff is same centre as a gq front. and the navara front is a derivative of the r series irs centres used in old dattos, alot of import nissan cars and subaru's
id imagine they would be around the 4.1 mark as it is a reasonably common thing to get a navara lsd center and put it in a gq front diff.

If you are talking about the very lastest Navara then it has a new common rail 2.5 diesel. (not the same as the old 2wd 2.5) It is a new motor and the drive train isn't the same either. I test drove one a couple of months ago and wasn't very impressed. You have to rev the snot out of it for it to get the claimed 128kw and then it hit the redline. I think the 3.0 was a better motor.
Apartently it is a lot weaker than old model with the 3.0. Not positive on this but it is what I've been told so dig a bit deeper before you go to far.
Just looked at the website and final drive is 3.6 with the 6 speed manual.

Re: navara solid
im doing it myself so the only cost is materials, but with the money ill get from the 80 series it wont be a problem .chappo67@bigpond wrote:its a big job and cost heaps of costom bits how about getting gu or gq shazy with 4.6 or 4.3 and put the navara top on it get the two from the damage auction one stolen and recovered the navara one damaged to roof just make shore the thing has A STRIGHT shazy a 2.8 gq or gu has 4.6 diffs put the navara top on it then get it eng as a body swap sell of the left overs good luck

also does no one own one of these?
i really need confirmation on the diff ratios, and wide of diffs..
guess i should start looking into the steering also.

the 3l navara is a zd30. but it has no intercooler and a few other differences from the gu version. i cant see there being any reason why the gu box wouldnt fit behind a navara zd30. nissan generally dont like to change things unless its nessesary

As they are selling both models side by side at the moment. Atleast they where acouple of weeks ago.
And when people say the small GQ/GU diff. I believe they mean the H233, as it is smaller than the H260 (big diff).

cool. i think ill go ahead with the conversion but as suggested further up ill just do a body swap onto a gu 3lt chassis.
the cruiser will be sold..

Sounds like a good plan. I had simialr idea for my winch truck, the only reason I haven't done it is the engine bay is a lot smaller and so a bit cramped for a Nissan V8. Keep us up to date as I think it's a great idea.

nzdarin and turps.
not a problem ill keep you informed. i have found a gu 4.2 with a smashed body, just working out if it will fit in the engine bay, and still look kind of neat.

I understand he has done this before ...
KRiS
ok so i have done a hell of a lot of research on this and it is very viable.
i have the approval from queensland d.o.t i have spoken to a engineer.
im going to go ahead with this for sure.the hardest part of this conversoin is the steering link from the column through the firewall.
im trying to find a navara str d22 duelcab at this point (not too easy) but finding the partol 3lt rolling chassis has proved quite simple.
i will do a complete build up in the members section.
thanks for all the info

I haven't looked at a D22 steering shaft but a D21 has the same spline etc as a Patrol so here's hoping for a D22.
I shifting the cab back on my GQ at present and to extend the steering shaft I'm using another shaft and cutting the the spline and using that to attach to two flexi joints together. I only have to extend the shaft 75mm though, on a Navara swap it will be quite a bit more. I say this as I have a D21 body sitting next to my GQ that I was going to put on instead of Patrol body. It appears to be quite an easy thing to fix. (compared to alot of the other things!)
Have you worked out where the front wheels are going to be in relation to the Navara wheel arches? On the D21 about 6" of chassis was going to be cut off the front to get the bar anywhere near the grille! Great for approach angle.
