2.8 lux diesel burning coolant
After having some overheating issues (rad caked with mud, water boiling out completely) a few weeks back i have been having some intermitent cooling issues. I have replaced the rad with a new one, new thermo and new hoses. While replacing the rear main seal i found some coolant in the oil which i assumed would be from a busted head gasket. Pressure tested the rad and it came up good, the cap was faulty and replaced that with a good one. After this it stopped over heating but even after a short drive i could hear it boiling over into the overflow but it wouldnt go over half way on the temp gauge while driving. Also i ran the engine for 20 mins looking for bubbles in the coolant, not a single one.
I have now removed the turbo to be rebuilt as it is water cooled and also is oiled from the engine oil i thought maybe this is the problem, but it looks like it isnt. There appears to be no water in the turbo whatsoever.
Just the other day while parked on a slight angle (passenger side down) it started to bellow out white smoke and it smelt like coolant, the engine wasnt running rough or anything just blowing smoke only while on an angle, driving straight is was blowing only a small ammount of smoke. It was as if coolant was leaking into the exhaust or something?? (thats why i thought the turbo).
Could it be something other than the head gasket? i have half of the stuff off the head ATM so i figure i might as well do the head gasket and water pump as well, but id like to get ideas from others who may have had similar probs or dealt with these engines before in case it could be something else (or something simple).

Well some how you have coolant getting into the oil. cracked head or head gasket would be a good place to start just hope like hell it ain't a water jacket in the block never herd of this but i'd say it could happen and it's very strange how it blew alot of smoke on the angle and smelt like coolant very strange hope it is some thing easy never herd nothing like it.
plenty of parts on the bench
i contemplated welding it for about 5 seconds, ill just get an aftermarket head for it to get it running. Lexus V8 is on the cards but i cant afford it now and i want to have a running engine to sell to help pay for it.dumbdunce wrote:stop being a cry baby and get it welded or get a new head. it's pretty common on smaller diesels especially when you boost them.Drop Bear wrote:the head is forking cracked
of course you could just take the opportunity to jam a V8 in there
