FJ40 Spring Eyes
How hard is it to fit springs off a later model FJ40 to an earlier model FJ40, as the hole is bigger.
Is it the same size bolt but bigger bush? or is it bigger bolt and bush Outer diameter?

I thought the width of the springs are all the same. My early 40 springs are the same width as the 60 springs I have here. Its only the spring eye diameter and pin size thats different. I found some bushes that are the same eye size as the later 40 and 60 series eye but still use the same pin size as the early 40. The only thing is that you have to shave the "head" of the bush as they are far too thick to squeeze into the hanger. I think the bushes are off some sort of ford/mazda. I'll post up a part number and pics when I get a chance. I'm fitting the 60 springs to my early 40 as we speak.
I have resize a set of bushes so that an early model bush will acept the larger size pin
the bigest problem i found was that the bushes flogged out realy quickly
it is easer to refit later model spring mounts to your chasis and use 60 series bushes and pins

Yeah if you can locate later model mounts easily enough. I located some interstate but was in too much of a hurry to put it back together to wait for them.STIKA wrote:I have resize a set of bushes so that an early model bush will acept the larger size pin

Ok, so the pics are blurry as hell but here ya go anyway.
The part number for the bushes I used is S233 (Mackay). It seems they are listed for rear springs on Falcon/Fairlane XR/XA/ZA/ZF 1966/73.
So in the pics they appear left to right as standard 60 bush, standard early 40 bush, shaved falcon/fairlane bush and standard falcon/fairlane bush.
As Stika said there may be an issue with longevity, I'll have to see. But they are a cheap option to get me on the road and if they prove to be an issue I'll just have to go for later hangers and shackle mounts.

i found that when i was performing an upgrade to my 40, (soa, spring flip, shackle reversal, 60 series springs rear, 75 series up front, 60's diffs, 82 body on 77ish chassis) i found the difference between the 'older' bushes and the spring hanger and the 'newer' was substantial..
got rid of the crappy little hangers and got 75 series hangers for the fixed end, (beefier pins) and cut of the other ends hangers from a donor truck..
got the 75's fixed pin mounts from superior engineering..
