IM looking at the idea of using 2 gboxes or 2 transfers.

also looking at the option of puttting the reverse gears in for first.

ONce i get a box or 2 to play with, ill get into it.

also a cabstar box , i think can work somehow

Cheers

I think the 5 speed box has a lower 1st gear than a 4 speed, but not sure if they fit a P40, so that (if possible) and diff ratios as mentioned.

yeah i've heard about cabstar boxes, they do a 10 speed for it, i think. not common tho.

dual transfers? maybe for a LWB you could use an MQ divorced tranfer behind the stock one, don't know.

Two gearboxes were alicated to the MQ Patrol, the F4w81A ( 4 speed) or the FS5W81A (5 speed) ratios are as follows...

F4W81A
4th..........1.000:1
3rd..........1.449:1
2nd..........2.157:1
1st...........3.519:1
Reverse....4.181:1

FS5W81A
5th..........0.825:1
4th..........1.000:1
3rd..........1.440:1
2nd..........2.370:1

engine with turbo
1st..........3.897:1
Reverse...4.267:1
engine without turbo
1st..........4.222:1
reverse...4.622:1

Cabstar 5spd ratios ...
1st: 4.818
2nd: 2.620
3rd: 1.429
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.777
Rev: 4.818
Final ratio: 3.700

Two transfers are also availiable, the T130A and the T100L
Ratios are......
T130A
High.........1.000:1
low...........2.220:1

T100L
high..........1000:1
low...........2.074:1

Gear ratios for the 3 spd box..
1st.....2.900 to 1
2nd....1.562 to 1
3rd.....1.000 to 1
REV....4.015 to 1

Typical transfer ratio(split case)
high....1.000 to 1
low.....2.264 to 1

Diff ratios .....
These are the ratios for the MQ as per the Genuine book
4.375:1 (turbo diesel hardtop & deluxe wagon).
4.875:1 ( cab/ chassis SD33 & pick- up SD330).
4.111:1 (wagon P40).
4.625:1 (others).

By "mixing & matching" components you can get your final ratio down considerable enough to run 38's - 39's.

P40 and SD33 share same bell housing pattern so its an easy transfer if I recall right.

I believe there was a version of the CABSTAR that had a 'splitter' type transmission. A CABSTAR that i removed an H260 from at a wreckers had this type of transmission, but was removed unfortunatly. This might be able to be adapted to an MQ T130 transfer case :?:

This is exactly why when I was looking for an MQ I felt it had to be the 5 speed since there were no lower tcase gears.

Of course, since I couldnt find a good 5 speed MQ for under what the Maverick cost I bought the Maverick instead.

That isnt to say that there arent other options, but after f***ing around on the previous vehicle with much the same issue I was over that stuff.

If you have the divorced tcase model you can always use a different tcase.

The 5 speed NA diesel box should have the lowest first gear ratios unless you go the cabstar route.

No idea on the details, sorry. I bought a complete Patrol with the V8 & cabstar box in it and just swapped the driveline into my MK. It has a Dellow engine to transmission bellhousing and a Marks 4wd adaptor (No longer made) between the gearbox and transfercase.

The Cabstar had a SD22 engine.
