Good Jeep Mechanic

Post by XR6T »

Hello All,

I've been lurking around for a while waiting until I sold my Falcon to get into a fourby. Been looking at a lot of things but currently considering at a diesel Cherokee at the moment (late 90's) and wouldn't mind getting a pre-purchase inspection done by a proper jeep mechanic. I'm prepared to pay a couple of hundred bucks.

Anyone know of a good jeep mechanic in the south eastern suburbs that could possibly have a look at the car this Saturday morning? I've read how tempremental these things can be so want a proper test done.

Thanks,

Depending on were you are USA4X4 is fantastic a bit expensive but very thoughra( spelt wrong i know)! Has been around for ever and defenatly knows his stuff! His in mordialic!

If you end up getting a jeep or even if you have some questions come along to a Melbourne Jeep Owners Club meeting and meet most of the guys as we have some pretty awsome xj's petrol and diesel in the club!

You might better to post on www.ausjeepoffroad.com.au as that is a forum all for jeeps!

So if you get one or what ever come along to a meeting

You could also give Poly4x4 a try as they are based in Oakleigh.
I have never personally used them but I have heard good things :)

cheers

As President of the Melbourne Jeep Owners Club, I would recommend USA4X4 in Mordialloc, or Poly 4X4 in Huntingdale. Both support the Club, USA4X4 have been around forever.

As Suzuki Boy (my son) says, come along to a meeting! Check out www.mjoc.org.au

Well keen to join the 4x4 fraternity, and the diesel jeep seems like a reasonably priced and capable way of doing it. Only problems are the seller won't answer his phone and the few people at work I've spoken to that are fourby owners have almost talked me out of the jeep. Basically citing expensive parts and unknown reliability. The car for sale has no history attached.

Not sure what to do, its half the price of anything else I've looked at. Anyone know aany other good examples of jeeps for sale?

The diesel XJ's can be very expensive to repair when the heads go.
If it was me, stick to the 4 lt petrol on dual fuel.

I have a 1998 XJ (as well as TJ and WJ) and paid $8500 in original condition with 142000kms on it in June. There are heaps out there.
And with a 2" lift and 31's, they are a great 4wd machine.

A service history is pretty important when looking at buying.

Again, heaps of experience out there within the Jeep fraternity!

I must thank everyone for the prompt replies to my question! I also have to come clean that I have a 3.0ltr Patrol sittingin the driveway now that has come up at a red hot price, so I may now be going that way (not bought yet).

Thanks again fo ryour time and I apologise for wasting the bandwidth! The Jeeo was looking the goods until this car came up!
