sell privately or trade in

Post by Wilko76 »

Hi All

Hopefully early next year i will be upgrading to an 80 series TD Cruiser or patrol. I currently have a BJ42 (3B).

Do you think a private sale or trade in would be best? I know i would have to do a few things for private sale such as new seat belts etc.

What are your thoughts?

Mate sell it privately if you don't won't to be shocked at what they will offer you for your 40 as a trade in, i had a mate with an 1984 LX 40 it mint condition with the original 63000 km's on it and the car yards would give him $500 and that was it cos they can't resell it, it gets wholesaled and they get jack shit for it. The only other hope you've got with trading in is if you go to someone that is offering a minimum trade of like $3000 or something but then you may have to pick from there shit range of cars.

Cheers Benny

What condition is it in, there will be heaps of ppl on the forms that would pick up a clean 40. Other then that if you have the time part it out.

Private sale will be the only way to get any dollars for it. Yards will offer you crap then rip you off on the new one. Buy private sell private, better deals all round.

yeh private sale, being a 40 series a dealer will give you next to nothing for it. But if it was a later model car id say trade it in, you only have to look on carpoint and the trading post, some cars are on there for months and prices just keep on getting lower and lower. when i sold my 4runner i was offered 7k trade in. if i was to sell it privatly i might have got 8 or 9 for it but i would have had months of stuffing showing it to people and weekends waisted while waiting for them. So i took the trade in and the new car experence was all over with in one transaction.

Thanks all

Dropped into a few 4x4 yards in Brissie over weekend and they wouldn't give me bugger all. Private is the way to go!

It is in great condition. I can't do anything for a few months but once i am ready I will post a few pics.

Thx
