Mods to the new zook (with pics)

Post by smiley_smoke »

Thought i would post up the few mods i have done to my zook as of late. I also would like to hear from you guys to see what you have done to yours, like storage options and so on (photos would be handy too! :))

First of all is my under bonnet storage/tool box utilizing a 50 CAL ammo box:
50 Cal ammo box (double sided velcro tape to stop it rattling)
box was $12.95 from the Wellington ST Army Surplus store (Perth)

top view of air horns mounted to side of box =)

installed with horns wired up with a Narva 4 pin relay.. these babies are nice and loud

FYI - From the relay, Pin 30 goes to positive battery terminal, Pin 87 goes to positive side of compressor, Pin 85 goes to positive side of factory horn plug, and Pin 86 goes to negative side of factory horn plug, and ground the other terminal of the compressor

Centre console with cupholders! :D utilising a 30 CAL ammo box ($7.95 from an Army Surplus store):

For starters i removed the handle off this one as it is going to stay in the beast and also to make room for the cupholders. originally i was making some out of PVC but found the chrome ones at crazy clarks for 3 bucks each. they also have a thick rubber lining which can be removed to fit in larger bottles ie 1.25L softdrink.. or tallies :D

Centre console installed without cupholders
Image

square hole cut out of one of the cup holders to go over the handle mount point. used a dremel for this as its a neater cut (love that thing!)
Image

cupholders installed using rivets. rivetted the top of the cupholders together also to stop them hitting together and for added strength up top.

Finally i got round to installing the fire extinguisher in the new beast also:

cheers and let me know whats you think.. would love to see other peoples setups and mods (cheaper the better ;))

Nicely done.

Mines a home made console out of 9mm mdf and padded top, cup holders going on when its inside new zook. Also got cargo barrier to mount stuff to and custom box mounts in back.

U may want to line or underneath the centre box some foam or rubber as it will resonate and rattle.

Warning with the air horns, the dont like water or mud, mine were in same spot and now they got a new home in the weelie bin.

I am going crazy clark shopping now for some of those cup holders.

yeh i put some of the same rubber checkerplate from the floors (had offcuts) under the centre console ;) great minds...

i went for the 30 CAL ammo box for the centre console as it fits easily between the standard drover seats. I also put some rubber checkerplate inside it to stop rattles. they are greatly little things cos they are totally waterproof. i also added a U bolt to the front and filed out the front buckle so it fits over it, that way i can padlock it up for added security. :)

i mounted the airhorns on a slight anle.. the jack housing got in the way so may move the horns around so they face right down. i figure they wont last many water crossings but summer is almost here and well 30 bucks :S cant complain.

let me know if you get those cup holders.i can always grab some for ya and drop by sometime.

cheers

If you just want cup holders then the coiler/jimny center consoles are about 70 dollars from suzuki.
