Post by offroader-rama »

gq patrol came with as we know a rb30 tb42 (and td42 but we are not going to the diesel for now) now are vl commordore r31 skyline rb30's the same as the one in the patrol as in bell housing and dose that mean the tb42 would go into a vl or r31 and how similar are the heads or exhaust ports as a rb25 twincam head and turbo etc will go on a rb30 will it work also with a tb42 see where Im headed a twincam turbo charged tb42 it would have to kick some real arse now put it in something else that i ll keep secret for now little project I'm pondering :x no its not a skyline :x it will be very unique if works any one have ideas on above combo? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

if it is possible which i doubt it would be huge amonts of stuffing around. bellhousings are different. and i dont think a rb25 head would let enough air in for a 4.2l as its almost 50% bigger displacment

for starters the tb42 is push rod motor and the rb is overhead cam.
the bellhousings are totally different.
nissan are very big on making there car parts interchangeable, but the patrol is there one exception as they poached the motor from a forklift and the box from a light truck.

that said you could put a tb42 into a vl if you used an auto box with the nissan bellhousing bolted up. you would have to make custom engine mounts and much more all to put a large boat anchor into a car that would go better with a rb25 wich is a bolt in conversion
