DIY Limited Slip Diff
Greetings all
I don't 4wd enough to warrant spending more money than what i bought my sierra for fitting a diff locker to it. Also I don't want to weld the rear diff because 99% of my driving is around the city.
Is it possible to put grease or blu-tac or something in the front diff to turn it into a limited slip diff? Or some sort of super oil that they use in fluid couplings? Any other options?

only 300 or so from US for a locker, or welded in the front. unlock the hubs and you wont know its there.
Bluetak is usually used for RC 4x4s and not real diffs.

if u dont mind me asking whats the diference between a air locker and a auto locker ??
i know a air locker uses compressed air to move a cog which locks up the plantet gears inside the diff.
is a auto locker permantly locked ? or does it just kick in when u are losing trackion how does it work ??
probaly a stupid noob Q but i would apreciate the info .

An air locker works from an air compressor and when turned on is permanant.
A lock rite and the sort are made so when on a non slip surface(road) it is locked in untill you turn a corner then it will diss ingage and let the diff do what a normal diff will do.
I have 2 lockrites in mine and swear by them exept for slow stuff in 4wd because you can hardly steer it!

yea the auto locker thing is a bit deceiving. A better description of them is as an auto un-locker. When under power and driving in a straight line they will be locked. they will unlock when windup occurs within the diff during cornering. The problem with them on suzukis is that they need traction in order to create the windup in order to unlock wich means that on slippery low traction trails the will stay locked. with that in mind, a slipery low traction situation is exactly when you want it locked anyhow. PS this is all just theory, Ive never driven on or off road with one so I can't make a jugement on whether they are a good thing or not. problem is that the crown wheel and pinion would also be moving through it so the faster you drove the more resistance. by the time you start blowing up diffs its cheaper to weld it. by the way are you a troll?rogerramjet wrote:Has anyone tried putting a corn flour / water mix in the diff? WTF are you on. Gotta be a troll. I will say it now, NO FAWKING CORNFLOWER GOES IN DIFFS. Do you understand what happens when water or other contaminated gets into diffs. Why do you think we have seals and breathers, to keep oil in, and water and crap out.

Pay cheap pay twice. If you want a locker buy one do not use kitchen products to make a locker, its a half baked idea at best

you could try that expanding foam as well, i've heard they have had sucessful results with it in Uzbekistaan.

4 packets of cup a soup should work as well, that thickens up my stew when it get s warm , so it should work in ur diff aswell.also if ur goin to use corn flour use the nurses brand its the bomb...................................................
