Try asking in the Zook section. No need to double post unless you get no respose there.

I believe it has been done in Victoria.

Yes, Christover had a lot of photos up of a REALLY neat swap. I assume they've now been lost with the various site changes but he might be able to Tonka them or email you.

we just fitted the latest one to our 7 repliva an s15det. pertty straight forward to get running

good motors,

getting expensive now though, ours was 7k 12mths ago with rear diff, front wishbones and brakes and some coilovers etc (just these parts only no car, front cut etc) should get one for $2500 for an s 13

might be cheaper options around. My bro just fitted a bigport 4age and it goes hard and is light as too. think it was $1200

They are also getting dearer, but if you look at 4AGE, consider the 4AGZE. They go great standard and are just waiting for a turbo to be put onto them :D

CA18DET's are not far behind an SR20DET for performance either and are much cheaper.

The SR are very responsive to mods and a bit easier to find go fast bits for then the CA (although theyre both got heaps around)....

When my mate had the sr20 in his swb manual zook it could lift the front wheels if you breathed too hard on the throttle. I found this out on Ellis tk  scarey..... And its non turbo...
for off road I'd suggest a non turbo, cheaper and more power than you need.

Im Just trying to figure out weather to go for the SR20DET or 4AGZE? Sounds like the SR is twice the work to get them in there tho. The CA18DET Sounds like it maybe worth looking at too?? Im pretty sure they are quite a bit cheaper aswell. Any idea how long the gearbox is?

The AG donks have a good reputation on Outerlimits, but I know nothing personally.
The AG donks would have to be easier to fit?
I'm told the CA18DET are cast iron blocks, and if true, I think they be too heavy, especially if wanting a cert.
No idea on lengths, sorry.
The owner is non internet ready, so info not easy to get.
Find the wrecker in Industry crt in Lilydale, he knows a lot, and is very helpful if you don't p**s him off, that is :D

Even though the CA has an iron block, there's only a few kg's in it (the CA is a few kg's lighter from memory). I don't believe that either of them can be approved in qld in turbo form either, cause power to weight comes out too high. Personally I'd be looking at a late model VVT SR20DE or a 4AGZE, if you went the SR20 route you could look at bolting a supercharger to the side of it later on if you still wanted more power. If you're on a budget the non-turbo CA would probably be your best bet, they're dirt cheap cause everyone rips them out for turbo swaps, and, other than the oil squirters on the pistons and some slightly larger cams, are identical to the DET motors. The SR and CA gearboxes are the same length, both are about 860mm long. If you're looking for something a bit shorter the 'B' tranny out of a Gazelle or series 3 Bluebird is a good 50mm shorter and will bolt onto the back of a CA18 as long as you use the CA18 clutch and flywheel. You'll have to use the front yoke from the donor car as well though, as they're different to the later 'C' trans found in the Silvia's etc.

isn't the 4agze supercharged? i had a feeling it was, also theres the 20 valve 4age, that'd be pretty good too, 4 throttle bodies...

Yes, the GZE is supercharged, and yes the 20 valve is a good motor, but it's an absolute screamer. Think peak power at upwards of 7k rpm.....

autosalon just did a test of the quad throttle bodies, and found they really shift the peak power high in the rev range.

they also did a writeup of al the AG engines a while ago, which was interesting as. an interesting point they make is the front wheel drive blocks dizzy is right at the back of the motor, so may foul firewalls (that was in reference to cars, so zuk's who knows)

they're awesome motors that cop a thrashing tho

Yeah I was thinking 4AGZE, With Rockhopper, 4.8 Hilux Diffs, 33Simex. Anyone got any stab in the dark at what sort of KW at the wheels that would come out too? Im thinking about 150ish??
Just wondered how much you can do to the 4AGZE compared to the SR20DET. THere is just so many bolts on for SR's. But it seems to be hard to do the conversion and hard to engineer!

one of my mates has a 4agze sprinter and can easly pull 140-160 @ 10psi at the wheels, that was stock.

if you go a 4age the gze has got a stronger bottom end and cool little oil squrters aimed at the crank bearings
mq shorty, black, rust free!!, quarter chop, F&R tube bars and sliders, q78's or 33'' stt's, 4.88's with lsd waiting to be thrown in.. :D http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9540

KW is pure wank for a 4x4. torque is what you probably will be wanting. the AG boys get plenty of ponies out of them. probably not SR numbers, but plenty for a zook

Other than the despicable carbys, the 1.3's are pretty good with rockcrawler gearing. Thats the worst thing bout sierras is the gearing.

My mates is fully engineered, but he had to jump thru hoops.
He also assisting another guy with similar conversion, that will be engineered.
Can be done, but you need to know your stuff and impress the engineer.
With the new rules coming in, this could all change things, tho?

An attempt to get all the modification rules the same nationally
(Thinks it called NCOP?)
It has to be ratified by all states, yet, this could take them oodles of time
I'm not up on it all, theres probably good info on here somewhere.
RTA etc could have links, too.
