Got a 92 single cab Hilux (solid axle), and yeah, am wondering what the best go with the suspension is?
I've been reading through the site the last couple nights... and it's really hard to find information... so I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?
Im wondering about the IFS rear springs... and i've looked at a few sites, and it seems you have to cut out the front hangers and put new hangers in? Whats the go there? And you have to do cutting at the rear? Is it possible someone can point me in the right direction, maybe to a website or maybe just an explanation? What other mods would I be needing?
Would I get any flex if I put in 2" lifted springs and took some springs out of the pack? That whats I was originally going to do...but kinda pointless if im not actually going to get any flex at all.
Just another question...is there any 4x4 places in Brisbane, that perhaps I could pop in and just take a look and get an idea of what I need? I'm not a complete goose, just need some visuals...perhaps even spend some $$$
But yeah, any help would be cool...just wanna get my ute up to a level where I can tackle a few hills and stuff.

For ifs rears the best avenue is to make a 200mm eye to eye shackle for the rear. You dont need to cut, weld or modify anything. Its a bolt on affair.Rilux wrote:Hey fellas,

Also, move your shocks inwards (ie, the / \ method of mounting them looking from the rear) This will eliminate the binding in the shock mounts when you get alot of extra flex.
You can take a leaf or 2 out, but remember the more you take out the lower the truck is going to be and the more prone the leaf is to bending. If you take out alot of leaves the best option it to run a ladder bar (trac bar) off your diff mounted to the chassis.
If you have competent fab/mechanical skillz it will cost you almost nothing except time.

When i did my lux and set it up for good flex i had the following.
Front: 2" OME 2000 model IFS rears with the thick load leaves removed, they are long leaf springs, drop front cross member (to get the lift) and new perches welded on at the rear, under the chassis, had to use a piece of angle welded to the inside of the chassis to mount the perch to because of the way the chassis tapers outwards. Standard shackles. Shock hoops with 14" adjustable shocks (i used Rancho's never had a drama with em). Used castor wedges at the u bolts too.
Rears: same springs same leaves, used the standard mount at the front, longer shackles at the rear, 2" lift blocks and a u bolt flip at the diff. Ended up moving the rear hangers back a little to get the right angle on the shackles because of the longer spring. Mounted the shocks on top of the diff sloped in towards the middle on a new crosmember.
Added a anti wrap bar as well but for some reason i'd gotten away with it ok.
With a 3" body lift i ran 37's without a drama, already trimmed the lip off the front guards but with a 2" body lift 35's fit nicely with this setup and it was all engineered in NSW a few years ago ok

So what about up front? I can fabricate (with my engineer mate help) some shackles for the front fairly easily, so the question that begs is do I have to drop the front crossmember at the front at all? Can I just stick the IFS rears in the front and just use longer shackles?
The ifs springs in std form will actually lower your lux an inch or so. The 200mm eye to eye shackle is the ideal length, the shorter ones of yours will make it sit even lower than with the 200 mm shackles and they will be on a very flat angle.
