gearbox oil level

Post by roaroffroad »

aye guys,
i changed the oil in my g,box last night (with castrol vmx-m and lucas heavey duty oil stabilizer) and noticed that alot more then 2.2 litres of oil came out. thinking i might have a leak from t,case?. i havent cracked the case yet to have a look if its low.

i was also thinking who ever done the last oil change put in too much, as i have been told in the past to 'just top it up till the oil comes out the filler hole'. but i put in bout 2.6 litres and its still not to the top.

any ideas?

p.s. i still cant find a place in adelaide that does body mods i.e. ute chops.
i asked my panel beater but he had nfi. if anyone comes to mind let me know.
cheers

Fill the gearbox until the oil comes out of the filler hole, it's going to use about 2.8 liters. Check out this review about Lucas oil stabilizer

Alej. Interesting test, ill have to think twice about putting lucas in next time. I have noticed slightly smoother gear changes though, especially when cold.

cheers ;)

gearbox - better, smoother changes - will use again

Hey Roar. Its good to know about your gearbox doing well... Today I change my gear oil with Motul Motyl Gear 75W90 syntetic blend. It is amazing how it works now, from the first moment, it's really smooth. I will never put Shell again!!! For the engine I put Valvoline VR1 15W40 SL is the fastest to shut my lifters in the morning
