Help...need to fit my new muddies with tubes!

Post by Toyo Truck »

Hey guys,

I have recently bought a set of 35"X10.5"X16" Silverstone Muds (117s).
These tyres look the bomb, but they were 16"s (I have 15" sunnies now).
So to fix the rim problem, I picked up a set of Nissan Patrol Alloys (16X8).

So yday, I take the tyres, and the rims, down to old mate tyre joint in
Milperra, he starts to put the tyre on the rim and then tells me that there
are a few problems.

1) This is a TUBE tyre, and I'd have to order tubes to suit this tyre!
This is fair enough, but which BRAND should I get? Which are better?
Are tubes OK? It seems alot more effort to fix and all that compared to
a normal bead (I have never owned tubed tyres) what are your
experiences?

2) This 10.5" wide tyre will NOT FIT on a 16"x8" rim???????
The previous owner has one already fitted to a patrol rim so I wasn't
to sure about this? The tyre bloke reckons the rim is not far enough
inside the tyre for 4WDing?? He rekons I need 16" split rims for these
tyres? Is this true?

Any help will be appreciated, as I am now back at square 1!!!!

Cheers,
Bart

BS - maybe in a perfect world.... i recently went down this path also and ended up getting Simex due to the 16" debarkle with the Silverstones, they make 15's but you can't find them anywhere. Anyway i have 10.5" ETII's and have mounted them on a 15x10 rim (spare only) it took some getting on there with a solid rubber ring the tyre shop had to get an initial seal before if seated the bead - but it went on. fatest centipede i have ever seen but for a spare it works OK. Your 10.5's should seat on a 8" rim no worries.

Go to a different tyre shop for a 2nd opinion i'd say!
GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

10.5" on 8" is normal sizing.

7-9" is recommended rim size for a 31x10.5x15 btw.

Go to someone who has a clue is my recommendation.

Silverstone's website should show you recommended rim sizes.
