Just about to order a new STX auto 2.5lt diesel Navara.
Obviously wont be for wheeling hard, just a work / tow / every day run around car.
Anyone have one and have any comments good or bad.
Please no guesspert replies..... only people with first hand experience would be appreciated.

As a everyday work/tow/dd it’s great! Good on fuel if u can stop yrself from fanging it! I have added ARB winch bar and Carryboy canopy.
I am a bit rough with my cars so this stuff might not happen to the next person and i am in no way saying they are a bad car. I love it! Best car I ever owned!! Just too damn low and 1.2 mtrs too damn long if you going to use it off road! Now all the Toyota boys are going to say get a Hilux… I’ll bet my 3rd testicular that off road you will have the same problems… they are both very long and very low utes…. But the Nissan was my pick because the 10k I saved on the car I could spend on extras….. And it can tow the ass end out of an elephant!
If you want to use it for light duty wheeling, touring etc u MUST do the following.
F*%K off the std tow/recovery hook! someone is going to be killed. The hook is fine hangs down far to low but its the way Nissan have attached it to the chassis. I hit a tree root and bent the cassis rail 15mm downward and sheared the bolts holding it in place but the hook is still ok. I installed my own recovery hooks but due to legal reasons I am not going any further on this in a public forum.
Next item of issue is the fuel tank! It’s plastic and hangs down lower then anything else under the car. I have made a 2mm steel bash plate for it and after 1000k off road its ok so the bash plate works!!
Now on Friday just gone i reversed out of a drive way with an above normal height and hole in the grass side. As i swung out i hit the concrete or something! At the time it didnt sound to major so i kept driving.... next day i noticed an oil patch under the car.... guess what i hit the oil sump for the engine!! dunno how but i did@!@!@! And now it’s screwed!!! I just got a quote for the part only from Nissan and they want 480 buks for it if it were my other car i would just fix with a BFH but its a new car with only 9000K on it so its getting replaced......

yeah they dont like more then 500kg in the back but the ride is nice when the tray is empty. So if u had to carry tools etc all day long then i would get air bags or upgraded springs in the reartweak'e wrote:a comman problem is rear springs sagging.
however i have seen one with an extra leaf in the rear factory standard so they may have fixed the problem.

the main thing that stopped me from looking at the hilux is the piss poor tow rating. Because i have to tow a $80,000 boat that isnt mine i have to care about the legalities, so hilux was out
I wanted the navara but at the time the wait was just far too long so we went the pathfinder. very similar in drive train, but suspension is very different.
The 2,5 diesel engine is just awesome. I've been averaging under 10L per hundred giving it some around the city, and towing nearly 3000kgs it only uses about 12 to 14L... absolutely awesome.
Build quality is still not what it should be, but is getting better.
I really dont like the switchy thing for low range, wish it had a lever, already had a problem with it, pain in the ass but nissan fixed it.
if you get fleet or primary producer discount it works out very cheap...

I got mine for a new tow car as i tow my 1500kg work trailer 24/7. got the 6 speed with the 2.5 and couldn't be happier . with the extras i got it for the same price i was quoted for the sr5 hilux with fleet no canopy tow air and only a 4speed auto. the navara is a much better buy and i can pull away from me mates hilux loaded.
mine will only ever see the beach as i have kept my patrol for the real wheeling talk about chalk and cheese.

The Toyota's poorer towing capacity is one of the reasons for grabbing the nissan, as is better pricing.
In all it seams those of you that have them are at the happy end of the scale rather than at the other end.

I changed the sump last night on the D40 (diesel) and I am a little concerned with what I saw!! The oil pick up is about the size of a billiard ball and has a small wedge cut out of it to suck the oil in and then it has the usual mesh in side it. (damn I wish I took a pic now)
Now down the track when sludge starts to build up I can see this being a problem….. I could modify it several different ways but it will most decently void my engine warranty….. So I know while I own the car will be doing 5k oil changes!!!

I got a Pathy 2.5TD with 5 speed auto. Runs really well and the economy is great. Running around i'm getting around 10l/100kms. Towing box trailer around all 24/7 i get around 11. With Nam's buggy on the back i got 15L/100kms.
The tow rating is great but i think if i was going to tow the buggy more with the pathy it would need a suspension upgrade in the rear, she was sagging a little. Navara will be better with the ridgid axle in the rear.
Interior build quality could be better but besides a few doggy looking mouldings coming loose i can't complain.

Ive got the V6 D40, heaps of power 198kw = 265 horsies, great for towing sits on 110kms no worries towing the van, tinny on the ladder racks and all the rest of the family crap. We wont talk about the fuel economy .

Dont expect the tyres to last very long I just changed mine at 15000kms and now I have a set of 32s with a 2 inch suspension lift. The front end will sag when you put a bull bar and winch on it and also the reverse seems to high because you have to ride the clutch a lot. And it dosen't like being put in low range on the pavement it makes a terrable chonk noise.

the noise in low? i suspect its going into 4x4 which is not a good thing to do on pavement and you may do damage doing so. if i remember correctly the stx has auto hubs and 4x4 in low range.
So what tyres, and suspension are you running?
