Who would like to see better event coverage in 4WD Monthly?

This is something that has been on my mind for a fair while and I thought I would see if I am alone in this or whether the rest of you feel the same way.

If you feel strongly enough about this, please add your vote and comments so that we can help influence the powers that be at 4WDM.

While the event coverage is OK with the adhoc event being covered well, I think that there is scope for improvement. I'd love to see more detailed coverage with series-to-date tallys, stage scores (maybe only top 10s if there are too many competitors), makes and models of vehicles etc.

There are quite a few comp series running in Oz at any one time with many spectators going along to see the action. I am positive that all these fans would like to see updates in print.

Yeah I agree alot with the result table side of things atleast the top tens I like to see just how people go and what they driving.

Wont have to worry bout the Rainforest or the Outback challenge though casue we always no that the winners gonna be in a RANGIE

There is one thing I would really like to see and that is specs on the rigs been either shown, or at least the top 3 places. And details dammit like tyre size, suspension config etc..

I'd also really like to see this kinda thing appear in videos as well..I spend 1/2 the time trying to figure out wtf they are running rather than enjoying the action

I'd like to see more results for sure but like Ferwoaza would like really to see specs, locker combos, suspension, tyres etc

There was an article which l read in 4x4 Australia a number of years ago covering the OBC which comes to mind, it stood out to me and i still use it as a reference today. The reason being that it covered all the top vehicles competing in the event, they didnt have a big write up , but more a list of some of the mods which had been made to the trucks with some photos, 2 or 3 cars a page if l remember corectly. The other thing which stood out was that they had a small write up on each stage of the event and the top 10 places.

As most of us compete or follow the comp scene a more indepth report would be prefered in my opinion, not to say that what is done now is crap, on the contrary it is good, but still has room for improvement.

And the specs and details HAVE to be absolutely accurate and consistent. Just remembering back to TTC2001 special mag and there were GLARING errors in the vehicle specs.

4WD Monthly did that for the first Tuff Truck Challenge. That was pretty good!

4WD Monthly did that for the first Tuff Truck Challenge. That was pretty good!

Yeah it was good. I drooled over that special edition for ages. I was kinda hoping that TTC02 would have a stand alone mag as well, but the coverage as a mega article in the normal mag was excellent. I gave it plenty of "lovin'" LOL.

I think the emphasis here is that there is room for improvement, NOT that what has been done to date is crap, because it isn't.

More regular and comprehensive comp coverage with more stats and vehicle specs etc. This has to be a good thing from a Sponsor's point of view.

I thnk a dedicated section to competitions would serve better, remembering that the majority of Mr 4wd public doesnt give a shit about competition, and the actually whine about "ALL THE COMPETITION STUFF" now..

Without the normal Mr Toorak Taxi, the mag would close. They need to know about their Car shower, and dunny roll holders. Advertising pays for shiat fwdoty is an example.

Its hard to please everyone, but I agree with Drafty about the 4x4 aussie thing on the OBC it was good.

People are puttin up a lot of time and money and gettin NO exposure in competitions in aussie, maybe if your lucky the top 2, or "usual top 5" and BJ...

Same as Tuff Truck etc. If the sport is going to go places, it needs exposure from our side not Scruby.

Doubt anyone will agree with me but as usual DILLIGAFF..

4wd Monthly is getting better with both event and Custom rig coverage. I beleive it has a lot to do with the Internet and the fact that a few of the guys at 4WD monthly are getting involved in the custom side of 4WDing and are now surfing the net and realising just how many people realy want to see the Custom side and Competition side of 4WDing.

I beleive over the next 12 months we will see some great improvements with both of these areas. I think now that Pat is competing and has a built rig and also now that it seams Rhys Williams is having a lot more input things should go from strength to strength.

Lets hope so anyway

Prolly a good oportunity for a Web based site linked to a product line.......Yeah there are several I know but even the stateside coverage is pretty pissweak. Mainly picci's but I want to read about individual runs on courses etc.

I notice that there isn't much lingo associated to driving techniques etc YET. Like other extreme sports (skateboarding etc) Mainly I think because everyone is still freakin out at the creations and not so much the driving at this stage of the game.

A one off year book would be good on events maybe for starters. I think the mags are doing there bit 4x4M was at Babinda with a camera which suprised me.

There's some EXTREME trucks being built, wheeled and superseded so fast now. There would have to be a shift in focus to the driving in the near future cause rules etc mean there's a limit to what can be built for comps.

yeah i agree its not bad ATM but plenty of room 4 improvement..

and like RUFF said i have also noticed the improvment in the articles about custom rigs..good 2 c..and also the write-ups seem 2 b more accurate..

and yeah i think that if a 4X4 monthly covers an event they should do a seperate mag like the first TTC coz i bet they wood sell heaps of them

as everyone has said, better comp coverage would be good. look at tuff truck 2002, there was bloody 50 pages of info on the event! plus a shitty "MUMBO" video. i think from memory they had about 4 pages on the last nissan trials!! and it always seems to be the same trucks on those pages!!

I just think a wider spread of vehicles shown at events rather than the same vehicles again and again. As everyone else has said it is going in the right direction. I actually like the combo of hardcore and touring stuff as I try to combine the two. The harder fun stuff with the Zuk and my Patrol for the camping touring stuff so being able to get info for both from the same mag is great
