Does 80 auto mate to 75 transfer?

Post by G.F.R.D »

Does anybody know if a 75 series tranfer could be mated to 80 series auto as this would solve my gearing problem, because you can get lower reduction gears. as well as gears that lower the high range and low range. this would mean i wouldn't have to buy diff gears

As far as I know fj and hj 75 all used 60 series type split transfer, hzj 75 used the split transfer. FZJ used the 80 series transfer. A mate fitted an 80 series auto to his fzj75 and it was a fair bit of work, custom crossmember, floor surgery, custom drive shaft lengths so yes it can be done. If you have a split transfer case a 60 series auto will bolt straight up. They are nearly identical inside except fo a woeful shift pattern, definitely require a shift kit

You can get 3.115:1 low range reduction gears for the 80 (and 100) t/case from Marks.

You can also get alternative high and low gearsets from Don Kyatts, both 0.912 & 2.415 or 1.097 & 2.649.

Watch out for the 80 auto box condition - they are the same box as the Pajero used up till bout 97, and they cost an arm and a leg to repair. Also fit a tranny cooler or two cause they like to heat up and destroy clutch packs real fast.

I tend to be greedy. You are able to get lower gears for the 75 series. another reason for 75 series transfer is the fact that it is part time. I know marks do a kit. but i just wanted to find out if it was possible to mate a 75 transfer as it would suit all my needs and be cheaper

you can but you have to change the output shaft in the auto to a 60 series auto shaft and then all you need is a 60 series auto extension housing i know this as i went the othere way and changed a 60 auto to put an 80 series base model transfer into a 75 seies cruiser
if it aint forced it wont go

wat?? 80 autos are heavy duty a442f and a440f...no pajero or prado here....why not just bolt it in, use the 80 auto and transfer and graft it into what your drivin,....the fzj75 had the 80 running gear std, so it does go in a 75.... and if it fits a 75....i also know a guy with a hdft and 80 box/transfer in an older hj75...easy conversion
