Hey guys, just want some feed back on lifting the back end about 50mm ( I'll wind up the front to match) I want to do it on the cheap as this is just my beach/bush hack ...do I extend the shackles? Reset the springs or get off the shelf OME or something similar. I know they all have good and bad points but having never done any of them I thought I would ask around. (By the way I'll be ditching the Narva driving lights, standard wheels and tyres and probably the front nudge bar too, if anyone is interested)

Easiest......cheapest way to lift the rear end is to get some longer shackles made for it !
Resetting Springs costs too much and sometimes makes the ride too firm, and buying an off-the-shelf suspension package......well.....I thought you wanted cheap !!
From recollection, for every 1/2" of lif, you need to make the shackles 1" longer...ie. If you want 50mm (1" of lift, then you need to make the shackles 2" longer than standard.
Don't forget...once done, check your brake lines and shocker length as not to destroy them !!

Yep - longer shackles are a quick, cheap way to go, but keep it mild. Overall length of shackles shouldn't be made longer than 2" ( 50mm ) over standard. As Besty almost got right, if you make a shackle 2" ( 50mm ) longer you get half that in lift ie: 1" ( 25mm -30mm )
To get 2" ( 50mm ) of lift you will need a 4" longer shackle which kills your departure angle, can get unstable due to extra side - side movement & the driveshaft can get vibration as you are only lifting one end it will rotate the axle so the Diff will point upwards more.
Extended Shackles good for 1" of lift ( or tweaking a 2" spring lift a bit higher ) but for a 2" ( 50mm ) lift I shop around for the cheapest set of lifted springs I could find.

The TJM set of leafs and 4 shocks (with torsions just wound up) was gonna cost $900 incl labour from a decent 4wd shop.
I'm gonna try and find someone to make the longer shackles for me cause they wont.
Actually may have to sell the beast in 5 months - have to go to the UK (cry) for 2 years, and will be needing the cash, so this is an early heads up for everyone out there

Dubb, if you're going to start adjusting the torsion bars make sure you've got a 22mm ring spanner and socket. The locking nut can be a right bi**h to get undone too.
Mine's been looking at bit low at the front- I measured it and it is actually ~ 25mm below the max factory height spec. Just need to get those lock nuts undone.......

Hey Rick Im about 1.5 hours from Grafton but I would be very interested in finding the guy that can reset my springs. Murcod, My tranny case oil fill bolts were a bugger to undo so Im expecting the worst for the torsion bars, looking at carrols shockies too as these seem like decent shockies.

The people who did mine were Green Bros. 66422304 in South Grafton on the main road heading towards Glen Innes just near the Soth Grafton airfield.
I have a Rocky and had four springs done, two leafs had to be replaced and they added an extra leaf all around. All up $420, but that was because they had to replace two broken leafs. Loaded it up the next day and a couple of thousannd K's later still great. Got between 50 - 75 mm lift at the same time as the old springs were shot.
Good news is if you don't mind killing a day in Grafton they will do them same day. They specialise in rebuilding springs, mainly for trucks, but other vehicles as well.

Another place u could ring is TUCKER SUSPENSION in Murwillumbah. A few of my mates have had there 4WDs done there.
One option is 2 remove the leaf springs yourself and then just get the suspension guy 2 reset them. A mate did that 2 his sierra and it only cost him about $100 just 2 get them reset and raised about 3-4 inches.
Tucker Suspension specialise in truck and 4WD suspension. I will be getting him 2 do my suspension sometime soon
