I have a 4.2 carby GQ and it is using a shit load of fuel. If I do 100km's it cost me about $50. Basicly what ever kay's I do it cost me about half that in fuel or more.
Any ideas why this could be happening?

The fuel economy been getting worse over time, even after I gave it a service its still getting worse. I've got 37 inch tyres on it but they have been on it for about a year and a half now and thats a corrected km's reading. It does puff out black smoke when its cold, I'm not sure if thats part of the problem.

My TB42 was sucking around 23L/100km till I took it to a bloke who
knew how to tune it good. That got me back to a more respectable 17L/100km.
That was back in July and it is allready starting to get out of time again.
The old carby donks need regular tuning.
Are you still running a stock dizzy, ignition coil and leads?
Isn't it the case with TB42's that white smoke = OK
black or blue smoke = bad news :(

I wish I got that economy! I've changed leads, plugs, all of the filters, points (although the points are nearly due to be changed again). I was thinking of getting a carby kit and getting a mate to rebuild it for me.
When its cold the fumes and smoke coming out of it burn the crap out of your eyes, like its just pure fuel.

I know it's a toyota, but about 4 months ago i bought a "reconditioned" carby, and it has helped fuel economy greatly. I can get between an extra 70 - 110 kms out of a tank ($55- $60).
I would also look at fitting electronic ignition.
