why not just get some sliders so your chassis isn't taking the brunt of the impact at all?

I dont think it would hurt to brace your chassis but make sure there are no vertical welds. Fish plate it so the ends are like this sort of shape <->

weaken if you weld something on the the chassie do it as v840 said
