I always thought they were best fitted just before the turbo. As the temps across different turbos varys. So pre-turbo is more accurate.

Was running a K&N the same size and shape as the factory filter, in the supplied cast air cleaner housing,

i have never had a factory air filter on it, as the K&N was there brefore the turbo install, and it was left there afterwards,
