5.5" Rocky"rig it yourself"Road lift kit...
5.5" Rocky"rig it yourself"Road lift kit...
Has anyone here bought one of Rocky Roads lift kits?I am constantly running into problems with what they have sent me...missing bolts on my drive shaft spacers/missing bolts on my over the top(OTT) steering arm...brake line hose clamps(which if you ask me isn't the way to clip your life savers on!Oh and losing a lot of my valuable time...having to stop & run to stores to get bolts ..yadda yadda...well now the problem i'm having is that first of all on there instructions as we moved along with installation we found out that with an OTT steering bar you lose the sway bar??!!!!Has anyone one here been able to make both of these work????I am building a everyday 4x4 not a "lean and roll" machine....#2 the stock u-bolts which on there instructions are supposed to be reuseable, are to short(when on, you only have about 4 threads for each bolt)now if you ask me i would like some longer bolts so as i could tork my bolts down...after all that is my twisting ..turning ...articulating(sP) front axle........ok i'm done ...but i'm still ready upset that for a $600 lift kit i'm running to the store for bolts&losing my sway bar!!!!does anyone have a OTT/SWAY BAR COMBO that works...or will i need to buy the "PANHARD BAR"?
your comments would be appreciated...i'm calling Rocky"rig it yourself"road today &would like some firepower to throught at them.....as if i don't already have enough right?!!

You have now discoverd the real rocky road. This is what happend to a buddy of mine....He bought thir upper shock mount. When it arrived the bolts were off from the center line about 3-4 degrees. not only that they were aff in seperate ways. So if you held up the mount and looked down it length wise one bolt pointed up 3 degrees, and one down. So he gets pissed and call them back to bitch at em. To their credit they took back the part and gave my freind a free set of missing links. But once he got the missing links the shoddy craftmanship continued. Now the missing links work ok but the welds are garbage, the pieces werent put in straight, and they just look awful. Ask around on some of the american suzuki boards and you hear similar horror stories. I've read alot of em. And this isnt even going into how they got their coil kit. Let me put it this way they pretty much stole it from tim shaffer. So ive heard from a prety reliable source. Ok end of rant.....If you want quality parts, excellent service and advice try spidertrax. they are the best vendor Ive found so far.
So its not just me...that doesn't come as a surprise to me now...just called them up with a list of problems i've had with there so called"KIT"and basically all i asked them to do for me was send me 4 u-bolts that would complete my "KIT"(i hate calling it that because it really wasn't a KIT)anyways they told me...they couldn't just send me 4 u-bolts for free(a $24 dollar value)but what they could do is discount them at $2 off on each ...a big savings of $8....I told them "i'm not spending another dollar on Rocky"rig it yourself"Road and after a long rundown of my list of RR screw ups they didn't really care...anyways long story short i learned my lesson the hard way go to Trail tough or spidertrax....tell your friends Rocky"rig it yourself"Road SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Ok this whole RRO bashing is ridiculous. Glen did not steal MIKE Schaefers coil Kit. He was selling it as reseller for mike before Mike set up his own store. There is this whole thing that people bash Glen on the boards etc before actually gettimg touch with him about problems etc. I would be very careful in bashing on the internet as Glen has pursued a few people legaly over this sort of slander. there are right and wromg ways of going about it.
i have dealt with him in the past and had no dramas at all with him. he was very helpful and spent a lot of time dealing with me back and forth.

Ransom note = demand + collage
I was not trying to start an argument here. I was just telling a true story about my freinds parts he recieved. Like I said they did try to make it right by sending him the missing links. I was not saying anything about there customer service being bad. I just think he needs a little better quality control on his products. And as for the whole coil kit thing...I admit I dont know the whole story, So maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut. I am not trying to slander anyone.
I'm not intimately familiar with this kit mate but just how big a lift is it exactly? The swaybar to my knowledge is fairly redundant with decent lifts/ articulation and really only hinders travel. That's the case with my mates Zook. He took it off with standard susp and nearly rolled on the road but once his lift (3") went in there was no diffrence with it on or off. I could be wrong but that's my experience

Correct - removing the anti-roll bar should be high on the list of modifications for anyone that wants some decent articulated performance out the front of the sierra/samurai...
I think that it's just a matter of driving the car accordingly - if you're setting it up for offroad - expect it to drive a little less nicely onroad...
The great comparison i read once was:
"you wouldn't complain about the ground clearance on a ferrari would you?"
As in - Your car is being built for a purpose, and when you take it out of it's element - you should expect it to not perform as nicely as it did before.
Cheers

I'm from the usa...i get what you all are saying with the slander thing...getting slapped around by a company to which once they have your money its there money...street ride versus offroad....but to be tottally honest -i'm just venting &thought some of you all might have gone through something similar as i did with "Rocky Toad"...i don't mean to offend anyone here but come on $600 dollars for a lift kit that is missing bolts.instructions&tells you your oem u-bolts will work fine(when they really could work if you want to ride on 4 threads on each bolt)is to me a talked up poor lift kit....i realize now that in the middle of building my rig with all the things i want to put on it...Rocky Toad will get no more sales from me ...and let me tell you i got a little ways to go ...long story short...i'm not out to offend anyone hear but i will voice my opinion when the a company which we all purchase from has a customer srv dept that isn't out to make the customer happy....its all about the customer from what i'm learned though the years...make them happy or them don't come back...I am not going back!
and one more thing after talking to some other outfitters for zooks i learmed from them that OEM u-bolts don't fit my "5 lift like "Rocky Toad "said....i need to purchase extended u-bolts..which i did with another company

Based on the parts I've bought from the US I can offer this
General guide to US Parts;
'Bolt on' actually means get a hammer, grinder and welder.
'Welding required' means fabrication required.
'Simple' is another way of saying 'doesn't work'
'Universal fit' means you shouldn't have bought this you clown, you would have been better off making one that actually works from scratch.
'Solves bump steer' is code for 'we don't really understand bump steer'
' Same day dispatch' means when we feel like it.
'UPS Air express' means Bend over.
'24 hr tech line' means- 'check it out, a talking monkey!'
Jokes aside, Roadless Gear, Trail Tough and Spidertrax have all been great- good service, great products and no crap.

Uki I actually appreciate people who pop up and vent a little over kits and the like they have bought.
Gives me insight when I start asking questions when I buy myself. If I was to look at a RR lift now I would ask direct Questions relating to your experiences and others before a shelled out the dollars.
Ta for the info, makes me want to buy local however.

I agree with you Singo - If i get bad service from someone - i'm going to share my experiences with people...
There's another great saying...
"a happy customer tells one person, an unhappy customer tells ten"
If a merchant of some sort is not doing a good job - then why should they be protected?

Ahhhem translation: I will personally support any person who is prepared to relate a bad experience in reference to unsatisfactory customer service by a company they have had business with.
It will benifit us all by ensuring we are well warned prior to dealing with the said company in purchasing after market parts.
Uki well done, top effort. (or words to that effect)

Umm yeah. but what about the other side of the coin. Some customers wont listen to advice, who buy the wrong parts and try to adapt them to what ever F#$%@ d up idea their mate told them, or who are economical with the truth with describing what they want. Customers can still be highly unrealistic about how they're cars are used. I've avoided selling lots of thinks to blokes who wont listen.
Theres two sides to all these fellas bitching- some have been riped off but a few are just wankers!
We've had a guy screaming blue murder when he couldn't get a tyre on to his rim... he's bought weld on beadlocks and put them on rims with reversed centres...nobody could get a tyre over the safety bead.
We've seen a guy who bought the longest , flexiest, most drive like a slinky springs he could find complain they wouldnt carry 2 tonnes of plumbing gear and a trailer... he told the store it was a weekend only, dedicated toy that never caried any weight at all!
We refused to sell wheel spacers to a guy who had put ( badly) wide track diffs under a narrow track- he needed two spacers- FOR THE SAME SIDE!
Theres plenty of blokes who think ranchos change the height of your car like airbags.
All these guys undoubtedly feel it's allright to bitch about the stores where they got there gear- they didnt give the full story and still cant see what they've done wrong.
