I went through a few of them too !!
I ended up welding a small length of chain to either side of the engine mounts, so if it broke another one, the engine wouldn't try and do backflips under acceleration !!
I tried the chain idea after seeing it on other peoples cars, but fencing wire was always carried in my toolbox as a make-shift one (also works really well at keeping things where they should be !
so is breaking engine mounts another problem for rockys? an how do u break em?

Mine needed doing when I bought the car and I've just had to replace it again. So it lasted around 60,000k's and some of that was some serious offroading.
Weld the front Leon, slows you down and stops so much breakage happening
I broke my last one doing around 6000rpm on a tight turn up hill in 1st low, also did the CV
marco did a left hand engine mount when he was snatching someone out.. that someone forgot to put it in gear will marco was going flat stick trying to yank dead weight out of a hole..

On either sides of the engine mount, get a piece of quality chain that will be long enough to loosely fit to each side with enough length to be welded onto the actual mount !
put a nut and bolt through the link in the chain and weld the bolts to either side of the mounts.
Don't do it so they are tight, but loose enough that if you do break a mount, you don't twist the engine off the other mount and/or destroy t-case mounts.
Sorry I don't have any pics.....I may have one of some fencing wire around my engine mount (2nd one I broke)....that worked well !!...Kept everythihng intact until the engine swap !!

or just bolt it to a spare braket mount or similar , higher up the motor !!!
then loop it around your chassis & bolt it !!!

2. What causes it to break Some of you have indicated that it's from over stressing the engine.

Find a replacement one from a wreckers and fit it whenever you get it. Not having one increses the risks of twisting your other engine mounts and also your t-case mounts....causing potential problems with tailshafts, cracked housings, potential to destroy radiator with engine fan.....etc !
If you go offroad a lot, then fix it sooner...not later.
Problems only start when the rev's are getting over the 5500-6500 redline, it causes more 'torquing' of the engine.
This is what happens if you don't fix that broken engine mount. The transmission mount broke out on the trail. The engine and transmission would rooster to the right and throw everything out of alignment when I tried to drive it. I used a tie down from the end of the transfer case to the frame to keep eveythind in line. It got me the 70+ miles home...change that engine mount.

There may be some truth in this Leon. Ive seen the way you 4wdrive, got to slowdown a bit dude. Have you tried getting hold of an original Daihatsu engine mount? Dont know if they are stronger than after market ones (probably not) but they are actually not that expensive. I paid $66. for one about two months ago.
Makes me cringe at the thought that I drove the truck for over four years and did not even check the engine mounts. Could be the reason why I needed a transmission overhaul.
Leon, it may be possible to make a stronger mount without too much difficulty. I haven't check out the LHS engine mount to see exactly what it looks like, but I've used the mounts off 6 cylinder Cortinas before in engine swaps. They are a cylindrical block of rubber with a bolt (around 8mm diam) coming out either end. They are also available in Nolathane.
If you go into a spare parts place that has engine mounts out accessible and have a rummage you'll probably find something stronger that can be easily adapted.

I welded the transmission and engine mounts after I got home and talk about transmitted vibrations! Had to drive this way for about a month till I got a engine mount from the salvage yard and a new transmission mount. I don't mind too much of a rough ride but this shook the whole truck while driving.
I know what you mean. Nolathane (polyurethane) mounts are good, but it's amazing how much extra vibration they will transmit. But, if you're breaking the factory mounts regularly it could be worth looking into.
