Caster Kit on 2" lift

Post by grimbo »

I am about to get a 2" Old Man Emu suspension kit put on my DX Diesel GU. I have been quoted including a caster kit. Now do I need a caster kit on a GU as on my GQ with a 3" lift I didn't need it. Also currently my steering seems to be behaving fine but I have also been quoted for a new steering dampener. Again I didn't upgrade on my GQ and never had any dramas.

I am on a very tight budget at the moment what with a baby due any day and it is a miracle I have managed to wrangle some cash to get this done now. So I want to make sure that if I get these they are necessary or just a thing you may as well get at the same time

i fitted a tough dog 2inch lift and lost 3degrees castor so i corrected it. best thing to do is fit the kit then get a castor swing check at a alignment place and youll know how much your missing.

Get it lifted and take it to get a wheel alligment and get them to check it and can put in castor correction bushes in to fix it up aswell.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

Castor kit is not required for 2" lift
Damper is only required if you want one.
2" lift kit $750.
OME is a good product but overpriced.

how can you say caster kit not needed. my gu had 3degrees positive castor before i lifted it when lifted i had 0 on one side and -09 on the other. no castor is not good. at least now my cars alignment is in spec.

offset bushes suck

Post by Nelso »

Offset radius arm bushes limit articulation massively. Is it used much off-road or mainly driven on-road? If its just a highway driver, adjust your caster, but if you do a bit of 4B'ing I'd put up with the direct steering until you can correct it properly by rotating your diff or fitting custom arms.

You shouldn't need to replace the steering damper for a two inch lift.

I agree that there are better lift kits than the old man emu one, but if you want one I have 2" lift springs, and OME shocks (shocks are 5000kms old) in my garage. Might save some coin if things are tight.

cool thanks for the offer but I'm getting a very good deal on the OME and have had great luck/use out of them on my vehicles in the past. It is mainly a DD at the moment but will be used as a tourer/camping vehicle soon. I don't need the hardcore vehicle anymore, been there done that, just want a comfortable camping truck

sounds like bushes are the go

I'd go for the offset caster bushes then. It's a reasonably cheap way of fixing caster and will stop the car from wandering all over the road.
