vitara air con fan

Post by bugden23 »

G'day,

When is the fan infront of the radiator on air conned vitara's supposed to engage ? The belt driven fan keeps the car perfectly cool in almost all conditions except for extended periods of time when the car is idling. (e.g. when they shut down the riverside expressway in brisbane and i had to hand an assignmnet and had the car idling in the hot sun for about 40 minutes). Even when the temp gauge starts to climb it doesn't seem to engage, so when is it supposed to work ?

Some are wired through a high pressure switch in the high pressure line of the AC system.
They wont turn the condenser fan on till the high pressure rises above a certian amount.
Does the AC give cold air after the car has been stationary for a while(say 10 min)

Its possible your vitara has this set up, but most likley the fan is shagged.
A test light would be the go to work this out ;)

Is that the back light that comes on with the headlights or the light in the AC switch?

i had the same problem with my a/c for my sierra. turned out to be a relay and a dodgy fan connection. i paid $150 for an auto electrician to fix it.

a/c fan should come on when u first turn the a/c on.
