alarms

Post by benjamin78au »

hey wondering who has set up alarms, in the soft tops , eg micro wave .

thinking about putting one in there, just for peice of mind, car,

any brands to stay away from as it changes monthly on which brand should be bought.
Had a basic rhino alarm in there for years, but age and rought 4wding busted it pretty bad.

thinking about mounting main alarm up under dash and have the horn or 2 if possible mounting in to cab.

The alarm needs to reset itself after 5 minutes. and have a battery back up on one of the horn just incase they get physical.

Has any one used one of the long range 2 way alarms, jaycar has one, as well as ebay , say they work up to about a kilometer .

so who has what alarms and what experiance do you have with them ???

I know ppl will say dont have things on show and i will be doing that as well, eg remove uhf antenna and put the uhf radio in glove box. to cover the sub and that , thinking about mounting a sheet of ply at tub height. setting up draws or something to use space under neath it. so to the casual eye, there isnt much in there. have the rear gate locked, and think if i put small loop of chain on the inside, i could padlock each zipper on rear window.

446 over here comes with either a shock sensor or glass breakage sensor.

I beleive the 160rli blue line comes with ultrasonics and shock sensor but only 2 immob points.

you mean you have microwave pointing from the b pillar, near the seat belt , and point them in the cab towards the dash?

No false alarms when top moves???

differance between microwave and ultra sonics, (beside what band of wavelenght they work on )

also , any mods any chance of moving this to general tech , as might be there to a more makes and models then just a zook. that and dont want anotherto start another fourm thread

Microwave sets a field around the car and will detect movement. Can be a PITA to setup.

ultrasonice detect air pressure difference. Mine go off when i leave the window open and arm the alarm. Only when the wind is a breeze.

Dont have to point a microwave as such either.

Talk to some of the installers to get some ideas for softtops and the such.

noise traps mean nothing..... how many times do you walk past a car alarm going off in a shopping center carpark ????

kill switches are fairly useless too ....power from the battery straight to the starter and your away......

to really make any car secure.. you either need an imobiliser ( cant afford one of them to go fry in the mud/water) or make it so you cant open the bonnet....

just my 2cents

well if you cant be inside car when they go off to noise is what i thinking , more then alerting ppl.

And the immobiliser i am going to hook up to electric fuel pump, eg switched off , no go no where.

besides having a 40 kg rotty in back , i running short of ideas
