i have heard that a series 3 bluebird has a bosch alternator that fits the same as a gq 55a. if it fits, you can buy a 120a commodore alt, and swap the covers over. i am looking for a bluebird alt to try, but havnt found a freebie yet!

the Bosch 50A alternators in particular can be tricked up to give you 100A easily and cheaply ($50ish), go and see an auto electrician....

As yours sounds like a diesel you dont have many options.

1. Remove superfluous lights and fit modern high output low wattage globes to main.

2. Put on later GQ front timing cover incorporating vac pump and fit any high output alt. ($1200)

3. Fit any high out put alt and fit an electric truck vac pump ($800)

4. Turn off stereo.

I just checked my RB30 motor and if the Bosch alternator that is hanging off it is not std then they do make one to fit!!

According to the 1992 Nissan Patrol specs the RB30 had a 40AH battery and 50A alternator, while the TB42E and S had a 55AH battery and 70A alternator and the TD42 had a 64AH battery and a 90A Alternator.

Hahahaha Matty what do you think about options 1 & 4?!?!? :D

5. Give Bazzle your winch!

Check your reg first with multi and go from there. Have a chat to Team Special... They have a special rate for crappy nissans :D

Thanks for the winch offer but mines still ok.

Winch doesnt get much help from alt anyway when pulling 400amps, so 55 will be ok ot chrage batt IF other loads are reduced.

Your electrical system is drawing 45-50 amps (V=I/R) If the battery is fully charged and all accesories are on. If it has a 70 amp alternator as mentioned by Hazard then maybe you need to get your alt checked. I will check at work , cos I think your alt should be bigger then 50amp.
