Homemade 6x4 Off-road Box Trailer Rego

Hey All

12 Months ago i built a 6x4 Off-road box trailer for my year 12 Tech project. I just havnt really had the time to get it registered. What do i have to do to get it registered?

You have to go to department of transport and get a vin number and vin plate,you attach the plate to the trailer and fill out a self assesment form and then pay them some money,its very cheap and very simple as long as the gvm is 750 kgm or under,over this you must have breaks and either a pig certificate if its never been registerded or a road worthy if it has been registered,love always Richard.

Yep got the Vin Number and plate, thats all on and filled out, Its GVM is 1500Kg It has 10" mechanical disks which are hooked up to the Trigg Hitch Over-ride System. Its never been registered as i built it. What is this "pig" certificate that you speak of??????

I just built a boat trailer with a gvm of 2000kg i went to get a road worthy,but because the trailer had never been registed before it had to have a pig report,i think they used to do this at department of transport or maybe they still do,the place that did mine was on the way to jacobs well which is only down the road so i did it there,you also need to have a weight certificate with you, and your vin plate attached to the trailer with the relevant weight filled out on it.The weight certificate is the weight of your trailer empty.

a mate at my old work built a 7x4 box trailer which he uses to carry his toopls around in daily. this in qld, he said all he has to do was go in there & fill in a form asking u if u think its safe & working condition. but thats for carryiung weights up to 750 kg anything over needs to have breaks & inspected by a member of the transport depo

if it is a new trailer never regoed then you need to do these things in this order..

1.. get vin number and plate and attach it to the trailer with all the relevant details filled out
2.. get the trailer weighed.. your local dump will be able to do this and then put these details on the vin plate as well..some weighbridges wont weigh the trailer for you unless you have the plate attached but others will not worry about it
3.. take your trailer and all your relevant paperwork to your dept of transport(weighbridge certificate, application for rego forms and receipts for the materials you used to build the trailer if you have some) and hand over your moolah
4.. they will not inspect the trailer they will merely measure the trailer and as long as the dimensions fit inside their regulations then consider it regoed
